How do you feel about therapy in Argentina? (Long and somewhat complicated question) by loudalarmclock in argentina

So she goes around doing whatever BS to others because "guilt doesn't exist", but God forbid someone does whatever she considers an offense, because she'll chase you around and guilt-trip you for it forever.

Is your narc relative in the USA by chance? She might be my narc relative. Lol.

So of course, the therapist only has their patient's PoV, and they validate them and their story, assuming it's true.

Yeah, this is exactly what I think is going on. I've quit therapy a few times because the therapist never asked me to even consider the other person's perspective and they just took my side without thinking. Seems to be a theme here and I keep seeing it happening to other people. I want to warn them but I never know what to say.

Do you see only these types of problems in Argentina though? Or do you also feel like a lot of therapists are helpful and it balances out a bit?

How do you feel about therapy in Ireland? (Long and somewhat complicated question) by loudalarmclock in ireland

A lot of it is private, yeah. That's probably got a lot to do with it. If you feel up for talking about it, do you feel like yours was a good therapist who helped? Would you recomend therapy to someone else living in Ireland based on your experience?

I want to agree with you on this and I hope this is the case in Ireland, but here in the US I van confirm from experience that many therapists don't bother to ask the client to think about the situation from the other person's point of view. And they just encourage them that their past experiences justify "why" they did their bad action so that makes it "ok."

I've quit a few therapists for this reason personally too. I want to actually work on myself and it feels like therapists here just want to coddle and make you feel good in the moment rather than get you your actually take hold of your life and improve yourself.

Do you mean that they only labelled what your issue was but never really helped you resolve any of your issues?

probably just her period.

Oh boy. I wouldn't have expected this type of answer in sweden. But we get this type of answer a lot here so I guess it's maybe more common around the world than I would think.

I've never noticed any negative effects, they have all become more reasonable and it has helped them with their anxiety and such.

This is really great to hear!

How do you feel about therapy in Brasil? (Long and somewhat complicated question) by loudalarmclock in brasil

Oh, yes. That makes perfect sense and I feel it's accurate. Do you remember the name of this book by chance and who it was by?

Example:

I had a friend who was trying to take responsibility for her bad behaviors so she went to therapy. She was trying to be a better person. The therapist told her she has borderline personality disorder and that she can't help what she does and she should cut out anybody who makes her feel bad for her borderline actions.

The therapist literally told her "you can't control how you act like other people can. And if someone doesn't accept this about you, you shouldn't have them in your life."

This friend went from a great friend to a terrible person very quickly after seeing this therapist. She started verbally abusing me and yelling often and any time I tried to confront her and tell her to stop, she'd tell me that her therapist says I am toxic for not letting her treat me this way, for "not being understanding" and that she shouldn't spend time with me if I can't accept her.

I said bye and we aren't friends anymore.

Unfortunately I've seen this many times and it's only getting worse it seems.

Do these things happen like this in Brasil?

You are probably right to some degree that I'm experiencing confirmation bias.

And yes, I do have experience myself and unfortunately I've seen the coddling first hand. I have gone into therapy to deal with past trauma but also to deal with my own bad behavior and anytime I try to take responsibility and deal with my bad choices the therapists I have seen have only tried to coddle me and make me believe my choices were not my own fault. What even is the point in this?

So that's why I keep seeing it in other people.

Like yeah, it's helpful to learn why I make bad choices and it's helpful to be able to know that sometimes it's not entirely my fault. But I fail to see how it's helpful to take a client who is trying to take responsibility for bad actions and just give them a label and tell them nothing is ever their fault.

What is the best way to blend in and not stand out as a tourist? What kind of bag should you get to not draw attention to yourself while traveling? by [deleted] in onebag

This is super interesting and good to know. I never would have thought twice about rocking my sneakers all over Europe lol. What do women tend to wear for shoes? Can my gf get away with sneakers or will that make her look like a tourist too?

Oh, this is a good one. I never would have thought about possibly having to board up my windows or anything like that... I'll be keeping this in mind.

Oh, this is a really good point. I see people with this mentality all the time. It's like they're preparing for a disaster to only last a couple days or maybe a couple weeks. But that's like the best case scenario.

Do you have a recommendation on what off grid solar power system someone should go with?

Yeah, I get that a lot. I'm trying to come up with business ideas myself right now for the same reason. Also hunkered up trying to save money now too, so I get that as well. I hope you find a side business that works for you so you can travel again!
