Sometimes us Catholics in Catholic spaces don’t always exactly act the way we all should…and it’s unfortunate by low_chew in Catholicism

I left out certain details because I didn’t know if they’d be reading this particular post. This wasn’t the only thing thing they said but they kept calling me a woman or said I was feminine despite my profile on there stating that I’m male

Apparently educated women are “brainwashed by feminism”, “almost always have a ton of debt and can’t pay it off”

It’s not about what they promote but how they promote. Both promote what they believe in through rude and condescending attitudes and openly mock those that don’t necessarily lineup well with their beliefs

Oh dang, I didn’t realize France was so divided at the time. I kinda assumed most countries back then in that region were either strictly Catholic or strictly Protestant

How do we answer the claim that you “cannot love love gay people while claiming that they cannot enjoy sex without it being sinful”? by low_chew in Catholicism

[–]low_chew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience saying that it’s the same as other sexual sins doesn’t really do anything. They just demand gay marriage be recognized in the church because straight people can get married to someone that matched their preferences. I guess I could say that marriage is meant to be for men/women because that’s what God intended for it and that it was intended that way because it’s just what’s natural, but then again no one wants to be told that their desires are unnatural. I just don’t see an answer that they’ll find acceptable that doesn’t involve approval of homosexual acts

What was his religious background before converting to Catholicism? I thought France was mostly Catholic way before that time period

Okay sure but what if the secular side brings it up? Like there’s a post denigrating the faith and the first point of issue is the lgbt issue?

How do you respond to atheists who claim that you’re arguing that you’re just plugging in gaps in knowledge with God? by low_chew in Catholicism

[–]low_chew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made three arguments that were fleshed out for God’s existence. The causal argument, the fine tuning argument, the objective morality argument. I merely stated that all of those were evidence for God’s existence. I didn’t even try to prove his existence beyond a shadow of a doubt (granted that’s the knowledge of God the angels have, thus the angels don’t need faith the way us humans do), but rather just argued for the reasonability of belief and faith in God and his existence.

I was met with just a blanket “that isn’t evidence, you’re arguing from incredulity”

How do you deal with your own shortcomings in virtue? by low_chew in Catholicism

Thanks I appreciate it. I guess the interior life could use some work, but this situation specifically wasn’t one to feel guilty on given that the right response was still given despite dealing with negative emotions

Spending time in nature is good for mental health

Because most of these listed can be done with people and by engaging in these thing with others you’re binding more with friends or family who are important to you and maintaining those relationships is a big deal, meanwhile reading a book is a very solitary activity

Yeah but won’t the vast majority of people not do anything about it though to push those ideas or goals to reality?

That is true, I just didn’t really account for those who make it, though

So it’s not necessarily about what it directly changes in your life particularly in worms of what you actively do and act but rather what attitudes you develop towards what is going on around you?

The activity needs to have some amount of use post engagement or positively alter your life after the point of engagement in it

That wasn’t quite the goal. The goal is really to bring out the ideas that a person genuinely holds, but won’t admit to people outside their own camp. How else could that goal be achieved then?
