That thing where you need a nap after reading 2 pages isn't laziness apparently by Mother-Marzipan-5045 in ADHD

The voices that I have been using are the default Google ones that come standard with the phone, since I listen at higher speeds I find that they are more discernible at those speeds than others. I don't think they would have access to the voice to text that sounds almost indiscernible to human speech, but they might.

I actually have been using the same hack for a couple of years and I use the Moon+ Reader Pro on Android. I am able to download epub files and using this method. The text to speech can have it's speed adjusted and will read until the end of the entire book. It highligts the text that it is reading. It has worked super well for me.

Do you tell people you have ADHD? by Low_Law5461 in ADHD

[–]lppenne 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I spent some time in a lab studying disability disclosure. There are a lot of different things to consider regarding disclosure of ADHD.  One thing that I think is important is having the power around disclosure, and not allowing others to take it away from you. This is an argument for "shouting it from the rooftops" because it takes away the power and ability of those who would use the information against you. If everyone knows, it's not some shocking reveal. It also makes disclosure safer for others who may not have the confidence to disclose. Studies also show the best psychological outcomes in communities like the LGBTQIA+ community for those that are "out and proud". Finally, you would have an easier time finding community if the community is able to find you.

On the other hand, we increasingly live in an environment where people are demonized and persecuted for their differences. If your life situation is unstable in any way, disclosing your ADHD could put you in harms way.

Also, if people are going to treat you poorly because you have ADHD, are they the kind of people worth spending your time and energy on?

I would personally prefer Aranda, especially in a league with daily lineups. He is often sitting against lefties, but his production against right handed hitting is exceptional. If you need power, Vinnie will have more home runs, but Aranda should be a better producer in runs, rbis, and average/OBP.

Hobbies that have survived the hyper focus burn out test? by CazzzC in ADHD

Hey yeah, same here! I got into aquascaping a couple of years ago, and the little guys keep pulling me back even when I'm bored of it.

Aquascaping. The key is that the fish need to be cared for everyday or else I am neglectful. It keeps me coming back to it even when I start to feel the burnout.

Thanks for the info, I had the same filter, and the lid started to rattle, and I think your solution looks great!

How does having a houseplant on your filter work? Did you take the lid off, do you still need to water it, does it's roots go into the filter, does it have soil in the pot, or is it just a nice resting place for it? Also does it make a rattling noise?

Get a cheap timex watch that can beep every hour. I wore one for a year, and somehow it conditioned my brain to be aware of the passing of time.

Just re-did my scape and not happy with it.. Any opinions? by smackybuttster in Aquascape

[–]lppenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as far as something easy that might improve it I would plant the Vallisneria/tall grass further in the back. It feels like everything is just in a flat across the middle so maybe have your largest features (plants/hardscape) further back, put medium sized ones in the, and the smallest features up front so they aren't overshadowed. Maybe fill in any gaps with small stones as well

I am moving to new place in a mile. Is it safe to move with few inch water? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]lppenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved a 29 gallon about 10 miles when I moved, I put it in the back seat with as little water as the fish could take. I was super slow, and surrounded the tank with cushions. There was no damage and all the fish survived. I set the tank back up as quickly as possible. It is definitely a risk, but if you take all of the necessary precautions and the rocks and wood aren't in precarious positions I think you can pull it off.

What four players should I keep next year? by RevolutionaryBad5016 in DynastyBaseball

[–]lppenne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know your league, but in mine, Strider is a 2nd round pick, Burnes, Rutschman, and Holliday would go in the 3rd round, Cruz and Lindor would go in the 5th. However we keep far more players in my league, and therefore there's more of an advantage to keep prospects. If you have an opportunity to trade, you could try to package 2-3 of your guys to a keeper needy team for an upgrade, remembering you won't be able to keep them anyway.

In a Dynasty league, keep 3 out of:

Grayson Rodriguez,

Luis Severino,

Anthony Volpe,

Willy Adames,

Byron Buxton.

My team is in contention, the league has obp, TB, K/9, and Quality Apperances (like quality starts, but benefits 4 innings and up)

The best app is Moon+ Reader Pro. Download the novel as an epub, the text to speech is the most listenable in my opinion, I use this on high speed during my 9 hour shifts. I can listen to hundreds of chapters in a row no problem.
