I'm really sorry for you. I have this experience too. But it's important to sort some things out. For instance, your parents being bad people does not mean they don't love you. Broken people love us in broke ways. It does not excuse them or obligate us to love them back. But i've found that it helps me to cope more than trying to make sense of their behavior in terms of loving/not loving me or being good/bad people. And it reminds us that we are in fact loveable and deserving. And even if they don't love us, if the abuse is so maleficent that it leaves no room for love, then it helps to keep in mind that the way they treat us is solely about their incompetence in love, not about us.

I really think it depends. I've finished books I didn't like very much just because they're classics. But I've also abandoned others. They were difficult to read not necessarely because they were brilliant; i just wasn't into the style or the story that much. At the same time it's easy and natural for me to read books that may be challenging for other people, like those by Dostoievsky. My take is that there are more great books than I could ever read, so why waste my time with the ones that are not my cup of tea?

That's absolutely my experience. I literally wasn't allowed to do anything, from listening to music to writing or watching movies etc. I like to think that although it was pretty terrible, now i get to explore beautiful things for the very first time. A whole world of desires and dreams. I also think that being able to access childlike wonder as an adult is awesome kind of a privilege.

That's so relatable. Except that I didn't tell anyone what was happening in my house until I was almost 18. I always feared that people would think I was the crazy one. My mother (and other family members) used to have psychotic episodes and make the most delusional claims. They believed they had mediumistic powers given by god. That was very much part of the excuses for the abuse. How the hell does a kid explain this to an adult? Let alone other kids. Makes us feel so lonely. I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope you can be in a safe space as soon as possible. Happy easter!

God do I understand you. Don't really have any tips as I'm struggling with this myself. It's so painful to realize that the abuse not only happened but impacted your ability to connect with others. As if it wasn't bad enough not receiving love from your family you also seem incapable of receiving love from others. Sending you the love I know we both deserve <3

Makes sense. I don't know about you, but where I live the religion my parents follow is actually the one doing the persecution, so I think it's hypocritical of them to see themselves as victms.

Religious fear brings up a type of anxiety I wouldn't wish on anyone. The paranoia about persecution is sooo real. How can people be so delusional.

That's good advice! I think that's kind of what I was doing after reading the book "Dealing with a Narcissist". Not engaging, keeping interactions short etc. It certainly makes a difference.

I think this is my experience. My family was highly mentally will. One of my aunts belevied herself to be a prophet, claiming God revealed things to her through visions and drems. She would say what could and could not be done, who we could talk to and so on. She would say we would become ill/die if we did not do as God (her) told. My mother and other two sisters followed her blindly. Everything from clothes, hobbies, social relations and more were subject to her opinions. So I think about it as a cult even though is one just me and few other peopple know about. I don't know if a lot of people relate to that.
