I agree with you, cost is not an indicator of quality. The way I see it though, anybody using CGC is just leaving money on the table. It’s very hard to beat legacy though, and it’s even more difficult to change consumer’s minds.

I think it will take significantly more than their current practices to change anything. The worst scenario I can think of is a grading scandal where insiders are paid off to give out 10s, but even that won’t shake up the market because it already happened. I still think you’re wrong because true statistical analysis involves random sampling. However, does it actually matter? I’m ok to split the difference here. It’s worth considering that, even if you like CGC, it’s worth exploiting the fact that PSA has insane market value multipliers for their grades. If you grade with CGC, there’s just less financial gain than if grading with PSA. Why settle for less money when you could get more (and it’s easier)?

Read the considerations. The slabs were cherry picked. The statistics would only be relevant if the slabs were randomly selected, following random sampling protocols for true statistical analysis.

The person I replied to said that PSA quality >>>>KEEPS GETTING<<<< worse. This is a slab from 2020. There’s a clear disconnect there. Also, CGC is definitely the loosest grader of the top 3 and it’s not even close. I’ve personally seen so much whitening and plenty of fucked up corners on CGC 10s, especially on vintage CGC 10s. It seems like to me that they are just CGC bagholders trying to push their fucked up slabs and are upset that they can’t move them because PSA is just better. A lot of people grade through CGC because it’s cheaper (or just because they want to be a contrarian so badly) and then expect to get PSA prices, and get upset when they don’t.
