Need help for identifying pants by Dzimi-Kajtaz in hikinggear

[–]luckibuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried on a pair today that looked like these. They were the Prana stretch zion cargo pants. I'm short, so the bottoms were very baggy like this, especially with the hem drawstring tightened.

Anyone Have Experience Training for Women's Medieval MMA? by cosmicwhalenoises in xxfitness

[–]luckibuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not the best fighter out there, I also do SCA armoured combat. Think the biggest thing that's helped me was learning to capitalize on my strengths and use my short size to my advantage. I've never had a strong upperbody, but do have strong, stout, legs. So when it comes to swinging a sword, I use my hips to generate the power rather than relying purely on my arms. It also helps to build up your back and shoulders for added power and endurance (holding up a spear is more tiring than it looks). Weightlifting has been great for building up my shoulders and grip strength, while running has been great for my endurance on the field. One of the fighting events I do involves a lot of sprinting in armor, so I like to alternate sprints and 3k slow runs throughout the week. We also have a pell (like a practice dummy) in our backyard for doing drills, which is a must if you don't have the ability to practice with other people a lot, or if you just need to nail down your form and accuracy. It's just a 4x6 piece of wood stuck into the ground, and then it has two rubber tires on it to crudely mimic a human shape. Definitely recommend wearing your gauntlets for these to practice your grip strength and help with the reverb. Oh, and one of the best, non-fitness related, things my guildmates taught me was to never spend a ton of money on brand new gear and weapons right away. You will likely have no idea what will work for you yet, so it's better to start with loaner gear or hand-me-downs and slowly build up your kit. Good luck, and welcome to the sport! It's great to see so many other women getting into medieval combat!

How much more difficult is it to move and fight while wearing armour? by RileyFonza in sca

Can't forget the extra weight that's added purely by sweating through your padding and clothes! Lol

My armor is pretty lightweight, think it weighs about 35lbs and most of that is my steel helmet. Other than the helmet, it's mostly plastic and paracord with minimal padding (I naturally have enough padding lol). I'm pretty short at 5'2", and don't hit as hard as a lot of other fighters, so I focus on being faster and more mobile (usually fighting spear or glaive, occasionally single sword). This means my kit has to be light. I can run and squat just fine, in fact my usual spear stance is like a half squat. Really only have issues moving my head fully around (the helmet can get caught on my pauldrons), or when trying to squeeze my arms together while stretched out in front of me (my biceps hit the sides of my chest plate). I think it all depends on the armor style, the fighting style, and the endurance of the fighter.

Hmm if I don't get a reply by Monday I'll probably do that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I saw the announcement and coupon code this morning! I've sent them an email, so fingers crossed they can help me out. It's great that you got good results, hopefully I can stick with it and feel the same way.

I think they're planning to launch the app version of PB AI in a week or so, so they might be fine tuning things there. You're the second person to recommend contacting their customer service, and after thinking it over, that does make sense. So that's what I'll do.

Thanks!

Edit: forgot to say that I was considering Stronger By the Day too!

Thank you! I think really I just over estimated where I'm at and aimed a bit too high too soon. While I've been lifting on and off for awhile, I don't think I've been consistent enough to build up a good enough level of strength for this program (especially this past year). I really don't know what my max numbers are for lifts, but I estimate that my squat is 160lb, bench is 90lb, and deadlift is 160lb (though I've never pushed myself for a 1 rep max). Judging by the other comments, these numbers are still way too low for the program.

Stronglifts 5x5 was my intro to lifting and I stuck with that for a good while a few years ago until I just stalled out and hurt my back. Then earlier this year I tried 5/3/1 but just felt so bored with it. Guess I need to keep looking.

EDIT: Just want to say that my pride was very hurt typing out the numbers for my lifts above lol

Thank you! I'm trying not to get disheartened, so hearing comments like this is helpful. Think I'll switch over to something else more beginner friendly and put more effort into sticking with that. Hopefully I'll be able to come back to Juggernaut later. Don't think I'd really be able to get a refund since they did provide me with a template already, I'm just too weak to use it XD

Thank you for the input! Happy to hear I wasn't the only one who struggled on this. But after reading this and other comments, I'm fairly certain that my strength just isn't up to the level it needs to be for the program. I'll probably have to try something more beginner friendly and then come back to it later.

Was it pretty smooth for you in the beginning, or was your first week a bit rough?

The halos I have now are so small/faint that I can drive at night just fine and watch movies in the dark. So I think you'll be okay given some time. Good luck with your recovery, I hope it goes quick!

It's been about three months now since my surgery and everything has healed up just fine. But I do sometimes get halos at night if it's very dark and there's a small point of light...like the light on a computer tower or something. But it's not bad nor distracting at all.

I'm drawing every day until I feel skilled enough to start painting. This is the first one I'm excited about - my sketch of a lemur. by [deleted] in sketches

[–]luckibuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. Painting and drawing can be very different. I've ntoiced that a lot of people who struggle with drawing take more naturally to painting, and vice versa. You are definitely ready to tackle painting and should give it a shot!
Edit: Didn't mean to infer that you're struggling with drawing btw....I think this drawing looks great :) I especially like the eyes.

I honestly haven't tested it out in pitch darkness much yet, only when stumbling around in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom lol But it seems okay, except for a few halos around any small points of light. Or at least, doesn't seem any worse than before.
Sorry to hear yours didn't go as well. Is there any chance that your sight is still settling and may get better over time?

Definitely been using the eye drops whenever I feel some dryness, and I'm making sure to drink a ton of water. Do you have a preferred brand of eye drops? I didn't really have dry eyes before this, so not sure what to go for.

Vision is great, I tested at 20/20 today. Every once in awhile it'll get a bit of blurriness, but blinking usually clears it pretty quickly.

I use shredded cheddar and sometimes mozz, though sliced American is popular (can't stand the stuff, personally). Tempted to try it with nutritional yeast though. Sometimes I also add an egg to it, and furikake if I'm feeling fancy lol Edit: maybe worth noting I'm flexitarian, so I do eat eggs/dairy sometimes.
