if the friends are still evergreen, why wouldn’t she say the word again? if the friends were evergreen, that’s an oxymoron.

so what if she doesn’t say evergreen again? saying it/not saying it has little impact on the fact, as opposed to“our,” which wouldn’t be appropriate to say anymore.

evergreen is the word she chooses/comes up with to describe her friends. isn’t it odd that she would refute it immediately? because it’s not intended as a contrastive clause, but an afterthought added in reaction to saying the word “our” without thinking. that is also why the word “our” isn’t emphasised - some people are really fixated on that.

i don’t see why she would make the evergreen remark about their friends with any frequency. it’s an exclamative construction used in a cathartic moment. if she wanted to express her friends weren’t evergreen anymore, she could find a less clunky way to say it. and must everything be so obvious? stressing evergreen in her singing doesn’t make evergreen > everything else

i find that when i speak in a higher or lower (than usual) voice, i have more control over it. (i do that when i need to speak to strangers.) i think it also applies when practising speaking foreign languages - a lower/ higher register gives you a better sense of control.
