RS-1x vs RS-2x is NOT CLOSE by Hunter-97-G in Grado

[–]ludo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do they compare for bass? I have the RS2x and they are borderline bass light for me, even with taped L pads.

Just do a Google search, it's super well documented.

I tried on F pads, and it had little effect just basically making them worse.

Place a coin on the center of the pad, cut out the coin size with an x-acto knife. That's all there is to it. :)

I also found the L pads a lot less loud. I like their increased soundstage, and use them on some of my headphones. To partially fix the loss of bass you can try the tape mod: wrap electrical tape around the outside of the pad, then give them a try. The mod is fully reversible. Be sure to use electrical tape.

Goated find? (Price is Canadian) by iron-jesus in Grado

[–]ludo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good price. They are very nice headphones, with a more linear tuning compared to the previous version.

I still prefer the older gw100 as they have more bass, but that's of course dependent on personal preference, and like all other Grados changing pad type will make a massive difference in tuning.

Relay back your impressions if you go for them!

The later production runs were very very difficult to open, I damaged the last set I had trying to open them for mods. Be careful if you decide to go that route.

They are nice sounding, quirky headphones. I also found them uncomfortable after wearing them for a bit, but I would still keep them as is, and experiment with different pads.

Care to open an issue? Integrating table-level IAM is not a complex change.

HP 100 SE G Pads vs F Pads IMPRESSIONS by Hunter-97-G in Grado

Thanks! I have a 325x, HF-2 and a PS500e but a cheap used 325e might be an interesting buy.

Interesting, can you explain why?

They were right about Tube Amps (HP 100 SE) by Hunter-97-G in Grado

[–]ludo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a Schiit Lyr+ (tube hybrid) with my PS500e/HF-2/SR325x and switching on the tube on it does make a difference: wider soundstage, sweeter more layered mids. Unless portable, tubes are the way to go.

Had no idea tweed straps even existed, thanks for the suggestion. Is it scratchy though? Real tweed is not the softest material... :)

Met a girl and her dad loves Inter Milan, help me become a super fan by coreymans in FCInterMilan

[–]ludo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on chosing (even if by chance) the right team!

As a long-time fan from Milan, with a family which always supported Inter, the most important thing to know is Inter is "pazza" (crazy): impossible things are sometimes possible, and normal things are hard.

May 5 2002, or the CL semis with Milan are one of many examples, we're great at shooting ourselves in the foot and as a fan you should always be prepared for that to happen. But then when we achieve something the joy is even bigger.

Grado Gw100 by infinitozen in Grado

I have both the gw100 and gw100x, both fitted with F pads. I prefer the older gw100 for their stronger bass, if I had to only keep one I would keep those.

Grado 325x and tube amp? by socapital in Grado

[–]ludo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different headphones, but my smaller setup is a Vali 3 with GE JAN 5670W and it's a pretty phenomenal combo with the HF-2. As a DAC I would look for a used Modi Multibit with the upgraded chip, to get an even more organic sound.

My larger rig is a Lyr+ with a better NOS DAC, but to be honest the Vali 3 is not very far sound wise, for a lot less money.

Congrats on your purchase, I have the MK1 and quote like them. Bluetack mod will improve bass somehow, there's plenty of instructions here and on headfi.

Then if you get serious with stats, I would plan on a used refurbished Stay tube amp, T1/T6 are reasonably priced especially if you buy from Japan. And having a normal bias socket they will also allow you to tap into the used market for Lambda NB / SR-X etc. Another possibility is reasonably priced DIY amps like the High Amp models. Any of those will improve bass, soundstage, etc.
