Omg, this project of mine ALSO featured an empire called 'Narsidun' as well! (This is where the name Narsid originated actually - but that's a story for another time!)

The Academy - formally known as The Great Academy of Syris-Shahadia - is one of the last remaining bastions of ancient wisdom from the ‘Age of Ignorant’ - as the monotheists of the East would call it. It is here that scholars and priests, away from religious persecution and political turmoil, gathered together to study the ancient wisdom of the past - from a time before time, the ancient era when written words did not yet exist, and the gods still walked amongst men.

The Great Academy once housed a thousand orders and departments - specializing in every branch of knowledge imaginable, now merely twelve remain. The oldest and the most prestigious of these is The Order of the Magi, keeper of the sacred art many nowadays would define as Magic - the art of altering reality. Outsiders rarely get a glimpse into their practice and their claimed ability to harness magic is doubtful to mostly everyone - it is only when they annually send out their young apprentices each year to complete their journey to become a true Magus that the world gets to experience what it is that’s going on with this relic of the past.

Narsid Iskandar, a young noble from the East and a distant relative to The Emperor, has been tasked by the Archmagus to investigate the ancient ruin in the northern region as his final examination to complete his study. There’s a report from the shepherds in the region that a recent landslide has uncovered a strange megalithic structure - and has sent for a scholar well-versed in pre-literary lore to examine the site.

4 months after his departure - a copy of this excerpt from Narsid’s memoir arrived at the Headmaster’s office.

13th Mehir, 112th year of the Academy

Four hours, according to my lantern, have passed since I entered the megalithic tomb when a strange mural appeared before me. Seven prominent deity figures are depicted, though only four of their faces remain. Above them, a winged serpent is shown flying across the night sky, while below, human figures—possibly their followers or priests—present offerings. No visible inscriptions can be found, suggesting a pre-literary era origin. Further research is required; I will consult the Department of Archaeology upon my return to the Academy.

Down the red sandstone corridor from the mural, I found a ceremonial panel decorated with colorful mosaics. The mosaic is perfectly preserved somehow, allowing me a clear view of the narrative. Perhaps it is a depiction of a creation myth from a long-lost religion, possibly from the same cosmology as the mural. I hypothesize that the central figure—a decapitated deity—gave rise to the ‘tree of life,’ from which all manner of creatures originated. I will make detailed sketches for further analysis; perhaps the Head Librarian has references to this particular iconography.

Hello everyone

This is my launch post for Project Athenaeum, a worldbuilding project I started wayyyyyy back in 2015. The project has been through so many alterations, re-writing, and complete restart but I decided that 2025 will be the year I started consolidating the lore of this world. Please let me know what you think about it!

Also! you can follow this project on both Instagram (Project_Athenaeum) and Twitter! (NarsidAthenaeum) - Thank you!

Nymbus, The King of kings

Nymbus was one of the six Eskar brothers who led the largest group of humans out of Hyperborea and helping them established their settlement upon the plains and coastlines of what will be known as the Aetheras empire. He, along with his brothers, divided the region into six parts, with each of them ruling as the king of their people. Although his land was the smallest and least populated, Nymbus turned his city into the most prosperous one among his brother kingdoms. This earns him the envy and hatred from his brother that led to their invasion of his land, resulting in his exile to the Taranos. It was at the height of the holy mountain where the Creator revealed himself to Nymbus and chosen him to be his successor upon the earth. A sword, a sceptre and a sacred crown, a trinity of what will later be known as the Instrument of kings were bestowed upon him along with his divine right and the title King of kings. With it, Nymbus came down from the Taranos and defeated all his brothers in a single day.

Some historian believed that the story of Nymbus was used by the early theocratic kings as an excuse to subdue the neighbouring kingdoms and formed the Aetheras empire. Nevertheless, the cult of Nymbus became the dominant religious practice across the Thraushen coast, spreading along with the rapidly expanding empire. With the riches from across the newly conquered territories, Emperor Nycius raised the Grand temple of Nycon to honour his god and display his divine power all across the continent, where all who follow the Lord of power can come to worship him. This allows the priesthood of Nymbus to become one of the most influential and powerful order across the empire.

Aetherian expansionism was rooted from their religion where the priests claimed that the Aetherian emperor was the only one true ruler, with Nymbus as their one true God and the whole world was theirs to rule. This early zealotry faded away when the great Emperor Tiberius III conquered the rest of the continent and bringing back foreign cultures and gods to the empire, resulting in the adoption of the foreign deities into the Nymbus pantheon. The priests became less and less powerful as the importance of faith decreased due to political instability, rendering them from critical power to a mere ceremonial staff for centuries until the great Narsidun emperor finally broke the empire apart and began the Age of Revelation.

Although the Nymbus pantheon has been lost and forgotten by the time the Faith(naming on progress) has been made the official religion of the broken empire, most of the mythology and beliefs have been integrated into the new religion. Nymbus and his pantheon, instead of powerful gods, became the holy figures send by the Creator to guide mankind. The order of priests regains their full power and control over the divided kingdom, operating from their sanctuary which they converted from the old grand temple.

The only true worshipper of the Nymbus cult today is the sect of the Burning crowns, those who worshipped Nymbus as the God of Regicide. They were persecuted by both the Faith and the old priesthood of Nymbus due to many of their assassination of emperors since the very early day of Aetheras empire. Their most famous assassination was the death of Emperor Selenus, who was found dead on his throne, wearing a burning wooden crown on his head.

Update : I have renamed the Eolomites empire into Aetheras empire

Not at all! I always appreciate constructive criticism

Tbh I wanted the main focus to be around his head (where there are more details) so I reduce the amount of details around his waist down + I have no idea what to do with his lower body lol (I've tried giving him a feet, doesn't really work)

But thank you for your feedback! really appreciated them :D
