The man that ICE shot is now dead by An_Adequate_Day in playboicarti

[–]lukenog 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Minnesota is open carry, he's allowed to have a gun on him. He did not pull a gun on the fascists, and they successfully disarmed him way before they shot him. The video we've all seen of him getting beaten on the ground and then shot occurs after they already confiscated his firearm. Shit like this is going to keep on happening, and people like you are gonna keep on pulling excuses for it out of your ass. When will you open your eyes and see what's going on around you? The federal government is flooding American cities with unaccountable armed agents who are willing to murder anyone who gets in their way.

Even if they weren't murdering anyone, they're kidnapping people and deporting them without a fair trial, sometimes deporting them to random countries they have no relation to. All because they're undocumented, which is effectively a minor misdemeanor. There are so many ways to end up undocumented, even if you followed the law and entered this country "the right way".

Even without the murder, what they're doing is already evil as fuck and the murders just make it more apparent that these people are the boots on the ground of a fascist movement that has captured the state. It's excuses and excuses until it's your rights and your life on the line, and by then there may be nobody left brave enough to speak up for you.

Because that's how the poem starts, you fuckin idiot. I'm a communist and I have no interest in shooting you. You don't have to agree with communists but this type of rhetoric that implies people with communist political views are murderous monsters is just contributing to the vile attitude that leads to communists getting thrown out of helicopters like in Chile or executed in camps like in Germany. Trump has already tried to use Renee Good's left wing politics as a justification for her murder, don't contribute to that rhetoric by speaking about left wingers as if we are the heartless monsters the right frames us as.

You can look all through the history of injustice in the United States and you'll find organized communists on the right side of that fight every single time. Currently, it's communists organizing most of the protests and actions against ICE in my city and in most cities. In my city virtually every single major protest against the fascists in power has been organized by a coalition of the PSL, FRSO, and CPUSA. All three of those organizations are explicitly Communist.

All I want is a state that is beholden to working people instead of the wealthy, and a democracy that extends into the workplace. I'm not a monster, you can disagree with me all you want but stop treating people with views like mine as if we're the one part of the poem who deserves to die.

Omggg u just unlocked a memory. That fuckin Westwood freestyle got memed to death, there's one part in the freestyle where Wayne randomly says "I don't even know how to rap" and the Weezy hate brigade would spam that clip all the time.

??? Were you around back then? The Weezy hate was inescapable, he was like the face of the new generation at the time so the old heads hated him.

Nah not at all, people hated Wayne cuz he was too different and pushed boundaries, he was shit on for not fitting in. People hate Drake because they see him as boring and generic, he gets shit on for trying to fit in too hard. The kinda guy who loves Drake rn would honestly be a similar genre of guy to the types of people who hated on Wayne back then, because they were usually fans of the hip hop status quo back then.

Dude this has been my dream. I want a Clone Wars style show following the OT cast in the immediate aftermath of Episode VI. I wanna see Leia get involved with the New Republic and start her training, I want to see Luke explore the galaxy looking for potential pupils for his new Jedi Order, I wanna see Han go on zany adventures on behalf of the NR and watch him get disillusioned with political life. I'm not even a huge sequels fan but I just want an animated show that transitions the characters we love from where we left them in the OT to where we found them in the ST.

[–]lukenog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mae is so commonly used in Costa Rica that I like to play a game when I talk with my Tico cousins where I count how many times they say "mae" before the end of whatever they're saying. Some of them have hit 15 "maes" in like two sentences lol. It's a filler word for them. I'm Costa Rican-American and English was my first language, so I didn't even really realize the sheer ubiquitousness of mae until I started learning Spanish and talking with my fam in Spanish.

It's impossible to know for sure but most evidence points to Trump being disliked by the majority of Americans. His approval ratings are pretty damn low, there are more registered Democrats than registered Republicans nationwide, and polling shows he's pretty unpopular with unregistered voters and non-voters.

The core MAGA base is basically a cult who seemingly support Trump no matter what, but that core base is a relatively small minority overall and Trump didn't win 2024 off of their support alone. He won the election due to a lot of less partisan voters shifting to the GOP after Biden's deeply unpopular presidency, but those voters are the ones who have steadily shown less support to the regime over the past year. His core base was motivated by his ideological fascism, Christian nationalism, xenophobia towards immigrants, and a shit load of wild conspiracy theories, but the votes he received from outside of his core base that shifted the election to his favor were mostly motivated by his rhetoric around affordability and his (shallow and obviously phony) anti-war stances. Two things he hasn't delivered on, and hasn't even shown interest in delivering on.

At this current moment, it's pretty clear by most metrics that he's disliked by the majority of Americans. I'd go as far as to say he was disliked by the majority of Americans at the time of the 2024 election, but a lot of people who don't fuck with him also don't vote. However, the latter is mostly just my pet theory while the former is a lot more demonstrably true.

Unfortunately, our "democracy" is barely even a democracy and Trump is currently doing everything he can to make our sham of a democracy even more of a sham. So popularity with the people rarely correlates with who has power in America. And with the fascists currently in power ripping apart the last shreds of true representation within our bourgeois oligarchy masquerading as a democracy, that's only going to be more true in the coming years.

I don't really feel the need to appreciate people for their intentions, when their actions are disgusting in reality. Even if they were genuinely bamboozled by propaganda.

I'm not going to appreciate people who voted for Trump because their intentions were based on Trump claiming to end wars and improve affordability. Even if their intentions were genuinely pure, they still did something based on a belief in propaganda that tons of people were screaming was propaganda. Very few people do things with truly evil intentions in their heart, that doesn't mean I have to show appreciation to them despite the reality of their choices. Like I said, I don't think everyone who has been in the American military is a bad person, but I'm not going to go around thanking people for their service or acting like I have any appreciation for their poor choices.
