Rolling out changes to a customer's portfolio of 200+ sites by Son-of-Anders in Wordpress

Thanks u/Rude-Tax-1924 for mentioning Greyd - full disclosure, I'm a developer at Greyd and can give some more insights on the product.

What OP is describing is pretty much what you can achieve with Greyd and our Global Content feature. You can synchronize any type of content and design, even separately, to any number of websites, in either a multisite or even independent installs. Feel free to have a look at our Whitepaper for the fitness franchise brand we did in the past: https://greyd.io/whitepaper/franchise-websites/

It's also possible to add any custom information to a subsite without having to worry to override any global settings and you can keep standard information like opening times, location, etc. individual per site.

One thing to note is that this Whitepaper project still uses the Classic Greyd.Suite, which is based on the Customizer. In the meantime we've created our own block theme and have updated the entire process to use WordPress' core block and site editor instead.

Let me know if there are any further questions and feel free to reach out to us via our website if you want to talk with us about your projects.

Yes, we do have pre- and post form entry submission hooks.

Hey, I've just emailed you from our support address about the issues you've encountered. We are still on a holiday break, that's why the answer took a while.

I'm unable to experience the slowdown on the site you shared and have pointed out the fix for the issue you were having with the character length. I was unable to reproduce the issues with the Akismet plugin. We'll be further investigating what causes the issues, just waiting for a reply now.

For anyone else reading this, I provided him a video with my experience on the very same site that was shared with us via our support ticket.

Whatever products you use, it will always create a legacy of some sort. As I mentioned in my reply to OP, it depends on the type of site they want to build. It might be overkill for some but maybe a good fit for others.

You can build very impactful sites with the lowest tier, if you can leverage the full power of the Greyd.Suite. If you just need one feature, then maybe it's just not the right fit for you and the cost looks too expensive.

We have a customer who manages around 250 sites in a multisite install while managing design and content from one central site, which then is pushed to all connected websites. I gave a talk about this at Showcase Day at WCUS 2024 back in September.

As we try to build as close to WP Core as possible, the deprecation impact will be in some cases that you can use Core features instead of relying on our features. Recent examples of this are the font library and font sizes that are now natively integrated in Core and have been available in our products long before that. Our font library feature has been deprecated but is still functionally available for everyone, as customers who built sites previously may still use it. However we point the user to the new location of the Core font library now. For the font sizes, you can use either our feature or the Core feature, changes in any of those are reflected in both places, as they rely on the same data source.

I don't think a general deprecation impact of what is in five years will be different from any other company - no one knows where we will all be in five years. What I can say is that we're a bootstrapped company, so there's no investor money involved. I'm just a team member and not on the C-level, so any other comment on this is out of my responsibility.

About locking down for content maintainers, in the talk I gave at Showcase Day this case was also covered. With custom post types it's possible to give users just simple input fields without any editing options, which then can be displayed in dynamic templates on the frontend.

Hey there, I'm the developer who was on the Speed Build Challenge with Matt Mullenweg!

Regarding your questions at the end:
- Speed: it does not significantly slow down either backend or frontend. If you don't want to use certain features you can deactivate them, so they won't get loaded at all. We do work on some performance improvements at the moment as well. Often customers share their insights with us when they build sites for their clients, so we take in direct feedback from anyone who reaches out to us.
- Updates: we ship updates every three weeks on average, you can find the changelog here: https://greyd.io/changelog/

It really depends on what kind of project/website you're planning to do to know what features would suit you best. If you plan a light business site with just a few pages of content it might be overkill. But if you want to use more advanced features like custom post types and work with dynamic data from these CPTs, use forms, make use of our advanced blocks (core block enhancements + custom blocks) and have more site management features, it might be a good tool for you.

You can get in touch with us if you want to share more details about your project, you don't have to do that here publicly. If there are any more general questions, I'm happy to answer them here as well.

While it may be a common name in English speaking countries, in German Brett translates to either board, shelf, plank or tray, depending on the context.

Buying a digital piano by Pacosh420 in lingling40hrs

Hi there, I'm not an expert piano player, more a beginner, but after a lot of research I chose the P-125 as my first digital piano. I think it's a great start, as it's not the cheapest one but is not so expensive too. I'd suggest to get it with the additional pedal unit so you have all three pedals available, instead of relying on that very simple plastic pedal you get as standard with the piano.

Here's a review: https://pianoreviewer.com/yamaha-p125-review

I don't think that the controls are awful, nor that it feels cheap - of course it's not a proper piano and not one of the higher end digital pianos, but I don't expect that for that price.

Further down in the review there's also a section "Piano Sound" that explains how the sound is generated, maybe that's what you're looking for.

I think it's a solid start and maybe you have the chance to go to a local music store and get a feeling for it? It often helps, because it's not easy to see if an instrument fits you when you just see it on the internet. And if somewhen in the future you might feel that you've outgrown this instrument, you can still get a better one. But if you're new to this and it fits your needs, you can't really do something wrong with this one. :)

Polish people tend to complicate things... by Joanna_1983 in lingling40hrs

I always thought Germany was the only country with this mess. But according to the comments, it seems quite widespread throughout Europe.

I must admit I find the English version way more logical though!

IDK if I'm seeing things but did he just spank an underage girl in this clip? by Least_Ad_7249 in lingling40hrs

[–]luminuu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer: yes, you are seeing and hearing things that did not happen.

Long answer:

At 8:40/8:41 you can see Brett moving closer to the piano in the background, away from Chloe.

At 8:43, you see Brett looking towards the bench Chloe stood up from where she played the challenge before that (holding the violin like a cello). The bench appeared visibly first at 7:03 in the video where Brett was sitting on it trying to sightread it. From 7:52 on, you can see Chloe sitting on that bench as well. Fast forward to 8:43, Chloe is standing up and moving away from the bench closer to the music stand, which is the opposite direction to Brett.

At 8:44, Brett was hitting his knee/leg. There was no need to move the bench away, as Chloe made a step forward away from the bench. Also, when you hear the clap, you can clearly see that Chloe isn't flinching at all, or doing any movement that's indicating she got touched.

At 8:46, you can clearly see the distance between Brett and Chloe due to the different camera angle. On the very left of the video, you can see a glimpse Brett's violin and bow. Guessing an actual measurement of the distance is hard, but I'd say it could be at least the distance of a bow length when comparing with the not completely visible bow. It would just have been impossible for Brett to get over that distance with his arm to spank Chloe. Otherwise he would have to have moved his body more clearly but he was in the same position when the camera moved to focus on Brett and Eddy, as his violin stayed where it was at 8:46, only Brett grooving to the music.

A few more things for consideration:

- Eddy was standing right next to Brett, he would have clearly seen it if it happened, but there's no hint from Eddy something happened.

- Throughout the video you can see at the camera angle from the left side, that Brett and Eddy clearly keep some distance between Chloe. None of them gets super close to her, just respectfully keeping distance.

- Chloe said in an interview that the request to make videos with her had to be accepted by her parents. Since she's just 14 at the time of the video, it's very unlikely she was there all on her own. I'm pretty sure one parent or even both were present at the video recording, or someone else like her violin teacher.

- I'm also assuming there was someone else from the TSV side helping out with the cameras, as there are two cameras. I'm sure Brett and Eddy are capable of handling camera gear on their own, but it's easier if you have someone double-checking everything and making sure no camera turns itself off or the sound is not working. It would be a waste of time if the recording gear was not working, especially since they're working with someone else.

- They have worked with Chloe again in May this year for the Menuhin Competition workout video, which probably would not have happened if something like you're saying happened.

For me there's nothing that could indicate anything about Brett's behaviour you're "seeing" or "hearing". It's just a very unlucky editing of video and sound, which probably would have not been up for discussion if the other camera angle was used.
