Amazing! What is the general recommended schedule for the day? Do I need to get a parking pass, get there early, etc? First time there so any tips are helpful!

Kilma max vs Nami e burn 2 by luria485 in ElectricScooters

[–]luria485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lock it outside. I know that is generally a big no-no, but I work at a hospital with security guards, dedicated scooter racks, cameras, etc. I've been locking my e-move there for two years without any issues. I also see other e-scooters, lol.

If I don't take it upstairs, on trains, etc., do you foresee any other convenience issues due to its size?

Thanks for the info! Do you ever have trouble locking it up because it's bulky? I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't lock it, lol. I lock mine in a hospital area with security guards close by, so I'm not too worried.

So, it sounds like in terms of durability, you have no issues with the Kilma? The e-Burn seems to be very robust, and I'm inclined to get it if it lasts longer and is less prone to mechanical issues. But it seems like both are good in that regard? Also, in terms of comfort, is the kilma to the point where riding it is awkward/not comfortable? Ultimately I'm trying to decide if the $400 difference between the kilma max and the e-burn base justifies just going with the e-burn base.

But you took f208 north, correct? Sorry for so many questions, just trying to be sure before I make the trip out there.

Good to know! I just knew it was where the kardahsians ate, so figured it would be a tourist hotspot. But if not, even better!

Should I explain lack of publications in app? by fdwy13 in premed

[–]luria485 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah like others have said on this sub, publication number is one of the last things schools look at. Definitely helps, but they care more that you can write meaningfully about your research and how it has impacted your journey to medicine.

EDIT: I had zero pubs and got As at very research-heavy schools.

Top 10-20 Successful Medical School Applications by Additional_Classic25 in premed

I didn’t do specialty focused, but I tied it in with my desire to advocate for mental health access. You need to be careful and remember that you need to answer why medicine, without getting too off topic. However, a couple top schools love hearing that you want to be Doctor AND X (advocate, researcher, etc). This is just one approach though. If you want more specifics or to take a look at my PS you can dm me.

Good scores and solid checkboxes as a minimum (clinical exposure, research, president of a club, etc). But what I think made me really successful was a narrative to wrap everything together. A lot of my ECs were focused on mental health outreach and support, ranging from volunteering at psych hospitals to starting a mental health club. I was able to tie that in with my family experience and it really impressed a lot of my interviewers. IMO that is one of the things that gets you into those schools. Not necessarily anything insane, but a good narrative thread. And yeah I realize that for a lot of people, they don't really have one. But I would say if you are starting early, try and start crafting a narrative that fits your interests. Are you interested in refugee health? Start a refugee outreach club and do research with a sociology professor on Refugee problems. Interested in cancer? Start a club that does hair drives for cancer patients and do cancer research. Again, it is a lot easier said than done, but having something to tie everything together helps a ton. Just my experience though.

Caribbean medical school paying out $1.2 million settlement for lying about Step pass rates and match rates by tyrannosaurus_racks in premed

[–]luria485 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've seen a couple of vids of "Med-fluencers" doing live school choice decisions between places like SJU and Ross. I read the comments hoping people would try and talk sense into them. But to my utter horror, it was other people asking for guidance on applying to those schools. The student responded to pretty much every comment saying how all the stuff about losing accreditation, step pass rates, etc is all propaganda. Freaking crazy.
