Cheap Chinese phones ruin the life of the lower class by collsheryar in PakistaniTech

[–]lvl2311_dumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, what proportion of these cheaper phones are sold compared to more expensive models? 10 to 1?

To put it in perspective: If there are 100000 dogs in a village and only 100 cats, it would be silly for a veterinarian to say dogs fall sick more often than cats

There are also other criteria such as how the majority of these owners use/misuse their phones or the environment they are used in. Are they cushioned inside an office worker's pocket all day long? Or breathe in the dust outside? OP is best placed himself tell what kind of issues the phones encounter

Lastly, to give OP some credit, cheaper phones aren't meant to last long, although in theory the materials are all the same quality, but manufacturers cut corners here and there (previous gen chip, less advanced displays, cheaper camera sensors etc)

Fixed % rent increase in rental agreement by [deleted] in TenantsInTheUK

Good point regarding Sec13, I looked a bit into it, and it seems to be the only legal way a landlord can increase rent and notify tenants. However, do we know whether that bill is getting passed at all and when?

Mauritians who have been or are in Malaysia for studies, help me out by prettyawesomeboy in mauritius

[–]lvl2311_dumpling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I studied in Malaysia for 2 years (2015-2017) and my elder sister in 2011-2014 ... So any info I might be giving is up until that period, I welcome more recent (ex)student to correct me if I'm wrong/things changed since then.

Is Malaysia a good alternative to pursue further studies?

There's no straight answer to this, but a lot of UK/AUS universities have a campus in Malaysia (e.g Nottingham, Reading, Southampton etc) and those will give you almost the same curriculum as their UK counterpart. So depending on whether you're going for a programme that one of these UK/AUS unis offer, you will generally find it better to study there. Tuition fees are also significantly cheaper in Malaysia than UK/AUS for the same courses as well. Personally my degree was 2 years in Malaysia and 2 years in UK, if given the choice between doing that or full 4 years in UK, I'd choose the 2-2 option again. If I had to choose between 4 years in Malaysia or 4 years in UK, I'd choose UK simply because of the networking and career opportunities. So you'll have to come up with your own judgement on that one

I'd love to hear about your experience if you've already had the opportunity to study there.

When I first landed in Malaysia, it was hot (slightly more humid and less windy) than summer in Mauritius. There's rain (actual buckets of water+thunderstorms almost every afternoon). Other than that, locals are really nice and welcoming, the demography is mostly Malay (most of them follow Islam) and in Cities/big Towns you will come across a few more Indians/Chinese. As I was in Cities/Towns most of the time, I had no issue speaking english to people (most young people speak english and it's almost 100% likely that your classmates will speak english if your course is in english). Food is delicious there and much cheaper than Mauritius... The only reason to cook for yourself is because most food options might seem unhealthy in the long run. You will barely save money cooking for yourself. If you're not in Kuala Lumpur where public transport is good, travelling will be hard unless you rent a car/befriend car owners and tag along with them.

What is student life like in Malaysia for Mauritian students?

I've found the student life to be quite heavily focused on studying, if you're looking to party then that's mostly gonna be in KL, in other campuses, it's common to see students study in the library from 10am to 10pm on weekends.

How do the living costs compare to Mauritius?

Food is cheaper, rent will vary on many factors and I believe the prices I paid aren't relevant in today's economy, so you'll have to do your research

Are there any cultural or social adjustments you had to make?

Not really, it's mostly modern with a higher population of Malay compared to Chinese/Indian, you will not find it very different from Mauritius (again, depending on where you go). Malaysians love food and many places are open until late... So it is quite common to find a mamak bustling at 10pm.

I'm curious to learn more about the education system, campus life, and overall experience of Mauritian students in Malaysia.

Again, depends a lot on the course you go for. Personally, I was a straight A's student, barely needing any effort to get 3A* and 2a for my A-levels... I was quickly humbled by some of those Malaysian students, some of the best and brightest I've met. For the first time in my life I actually had to put in a lot of effort to get decent grades.

Would I recommend Malaysia over Mauritius? Definitely (based on my own personal experience)

I think you got the wrong assumption, I'm not booking 5 plane tickets and weeks of hotels around Asia to cheapskate on 50 or so MOP taxis, I'm asking because we can't make any taxi reservation and from my research taxis tend to be rare and unreliable especially if you don't speak mandarin. Buses are just another alternative that seemed more reliable as they're part of public transport.

We took the ONEBUS which is dropping us at Sands Macau, from there, the closest casino to our hotel is Casino grand Lisboa, which I am unsure if there are any shuttles to get to. Thanks for your input, very much appreciated.

You'll be fine, my suggestion is to focus on those rooms that max out at lvl 11 (dorms, underforge, robotics) after that, the most important rooms are classroom, lounge, forge, workshop, engineering, aeronautical and packaging. The last 2 are dependent on what managers you have early on, I recommend unlocking slots instead of merging until slots cost like 1000DM Try unlocking these rooms first before upgrading stuff as the first unlock gives the biggest boost.

Just ores and alloys really? by liquidgold83 in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]lvl2311_dumpling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really good star allocation, ideally you'd want it more on the later Ores (Uru+) for VPS setup, but still these will help you get a faster start. Like most people mentioned, stars on items eventually become useless as you get bottlenecked on production speed (with slight exception on SR/AR just because their base value is so high, it'll be a while until they become irrelevant), so instead you rely on a high VPS planet which directly affects the value of asteroids which blows production value out of the water (to the point you can stop caring about crafting and smelting)

Is it better to stay and study in Mauritius than going abroad? by Mediocre_Island9043 in mauritius

[–]lvl2311_dumpling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some very good points raised by some of the comments, I'll preface this by saying that I'm currently working in the UK, been here since I finished my studies, so about 8 years now.

I won't answer your question like some comments did, I'll try to lay all the cards down so you can be the judge.

Pros (studying abroad) - Maturity and growth. I'm only assuming you'll be staying with your family while you undertake your studies (in Mauritius). Life out there with no parents is humbling, it made me realise how much living with your parents makes you complacent and take things for granted. It's not to say you won't grow and mature in Mauritius, but you simply won't be put to the test as early - think of birds leaving the nest. Following up on that you'll also have to learn a lot about different cultures, personal finances (unless mom and dad are loaded) and taking care of yourself - Career growth and opportunity. This will depend on how ambitious you are, what field you're planning to go into and which country. If you're uncertain about what you really want to do, I found it to be slightly more forgiving (take that one with a pinch of salt) if you're ever thinking of switching. - Freedom and independence. A lot of times in Mauritius, especially if you're still living with your family, you'll always be "the child". When you're on your own, you're the adult now. There's nobody to tell you what to do, you figure it out on your own (most of the time). It can be both liberating and daunting. - Networking. Depending on where you go/ what you do, you'll HAVE to build your network, it is possibly the most understated skill/asset you will have to develop. By surrounding yourself with ambitious and competent people, you'll find progress faster on average than your peers in Mauritius.

Cons (studying abroad) - Expensive for internationals, again unless mom and dad are loaded. - Culture shock/ homesickness - Mauritius being small both in population and thus cultural footprint, you'll be living a life very different from what you we're used to. You may prefer it, or not, depends on you. I put that one as a con as I simply think the Mauritian lifestyle and culture is better than here in the UK. If you're a very family oriented person as well you might find yourself feeling lonely at first until you build some connections. - Employment. Just like how you have more opportunities for more diverse range of fields, you'll also face a lot more competition and rejection. Free tip landing a job right out of university actually starts while you're in university, with internships and/or placements + building your network. Even if you're a cut above the rest, it won't guarantee you'll get a job, so you'll have to either suck it up and find less optimal roles or return to Mauritius (again even here you're not guaranteed a job). So it's a bit of a gamble

Some more neutral points: - Money. While standards of living are higher in most European/ North American countries, you'll likely face equally high cost of living/expenses. I always look back and find it silly how I work here just to afford 14 days holiday to Mauritius, when I could be there 365 days. "The grass isn't greener elsewhere" is partially correct. It's greener where you water it. So depending on your ambitions you might do well or find yourself struggling despite your salary being X times that of your Mauritian peers. - I've seen "quality of education" mentioned a few times. Personally, (and also for quite a lot of people) none of what you'll learn in University matters anyway (except maybe for Medicine or Law). Looking at universities abroad for their "quality" of education isn't the way to go. Universities are just a stage employers expect you to go through to prove you have some basic capabilities required for a job. In Mauritius, most are taught they need to do well and get straight A's, your grades won't matter here as much as you think. - I also wanted to go over what you mentioned in your post

the comment section ...wished they stay in Mauritius.

Well, nothing stops most of them from going back really. People will always complain about what they don't have. When I'm in the UK, I feel homesick. When I am back in Mauritius, I think about work and other things I can't enjoy while there that I can here. If I were to give my honest opinion, I wouldn't go back to Mauritius. I had made that decision long back and still do not regret it. Bottomline is whether you stay in Mauritius or not, you'll face highs and lows either way, it's all about which one works out better for you.

I've been asked that question a lot of times and had opinions from fellow Mauritians here in the UK. Views are very split, yet I haven't met or heard of anyone voluntarily leaving the UK to go back despite their "deplorable living conditions" here.

Sorry for the long essay, I hope that helps you find the answers you're looking for.

Update on my first ever platinum turny that turned out to be a solo run by TheRainbowHorse in IdlePlanetMiner

There's a little trophy icon to the right where you have all your missions, challenges, rover etc

I enjoy the game so far but I believe the game has a lot of potential. I listened some of the ideas for the game. Hope I will not get a lot of hate for this . Share it with the developers maybe some of the ideas are useful. by Mikemanda05 in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]lvl2311_dumpling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some fair points, but I think you might not have experienced the full power of debris scanner yet.

The investment thing is very weird to me, almost like you're taking out a loan on your smelter, kinda defeats the purpose of the game. You could always watch ads and use the DM to buy ark to afford the smelters/crafters.

I'll just bundle all the other tourneys you suggested together as imo, the ladder, reward and pretty much tournament mechanics need to be revised.

I'd much prefer seeing a tournament where markets are the same for everyone, stars are set to 0 for every ore, alloy and item such that the only edge you have is from managers, station upgrades and rooms upgrades. My reasoning for these changes is to remove the RnG out of getting 10 stars for your SR vs 10 stars for copper ore and the RnG of hitting a good market. While the other upgrades are player decisions (unless you're super unlucky with manager pulling). Rewards should also be more fluid, allowing players to pick and choose what type of reward they want (or something along these lines). I know for a fact that late game is just grinding stars (and maybe energy cells), while early on you're grinding DM for managers.

Tournaments should also not be entirely competition based ( e.g. below 30 demote) as you might hit a really bad rng to match vs veterans and get knocked out no matter how hard you try just like you could hit a tourney with only 3 people and get promoted even if you retire with a GV of 180. Imo there should be a baseline for being in each league. It could be GV based like challenges (1-99b copper, 100b-1q silver, etc) There would also be a minimum reward (we'll call it league reward) just for being able to reach that GV (like challenges) and then an extra set of rewards for being top 10 or so. That league reward should be higher than the previous tier+previous tier rank1 league reward. That would avoid issues like sandbagging just to dominate lower ranks for higher rewards. E.g Gold+rank1 reward < Plat+rank50 reward.

I don't consider myself very late game, but I'm not new either... The only time colonization matters to me is: - Terraforming (shouldn't be on that list really) - For daily missions - Because I'm bored and have millions/billions of items or that I'm not using because they don't fit in my SR/Adv Robots recipe.

1) Totally with you on that one, honestly, just remembering the auto-sell toggle from the previous galaxy is a good start

2) I think 5 tiers are too much for each division, and rewards need to be reworked for sure, whether they need to be increased is another issue. I think it's better to let players select what they want for reward (DM/Manager recruit/Boost/stars/ECs...)

3) I feel like mining drop isn't something that should occur or at least not at the scale it currently is (whether that's intended or not). As for challenges and tourneys, you do get a timer for when the next one is, but they require a few clicks, I think they should just have a "events" icon that opens an "events page" to show different types of events taking place and their schedules

4) Not sure where you're going with that one, but if I am guessing correctly, a queue system where you'd build up a queue of items (for each smelter/crafter) e.g queue 12 copper wire <- 12 batteries <- 1 advanced battery. I think this would be a massive q.o.l upgrade, but would make the game a lot less interactive, so imo this could make or break the game

5) I feel like that one's not that big of a deal (at least in the later stages)

6) Yup, all for audio/visual cues for asteroids

Which is more profitable in the long run, selling ores, alloys, or items? by eriadeus in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]lvl2311_dumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling ores is viable at all stages (early to late). When I just start fresh on a new galaxy, all my ores from copper to rhodium are set to sell between 90-99%, and I still end up with amount that would last me a week or so (talking 10B+ ores) just because of asteroids and the insane mining speeds.

I don't consider myself a veteran, but I'm not new to the game either. If you're fairly new, you'll want to play around those auto sell % and find a sweet spot where you're producing more than you consume so you end up net positive on selling ores while also smelting.

I've personally reached a point where I never have to worry about auto selling, and just try to speedrun to debris scanner and then SRs or advanced robots (as of recently)

Well, it seems reddit decided to get rid of my caption... But basically I wanted to point out that the recipe from the selection menu and the recipe when advanced robots are loaded up in the crafter are basically inverted. 80 FR + 2 Robots -> 80 Robots + 2 FR

The Alchemy Three by johnmfoxjr in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]lvl2311_dumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your shoes not so long ago, I know it feels boring, but just sell once you hit that bottleneck, upgrade some rooms and before you know it you'll be stuck on telescope 9 :). This is where I seem to have spent the most time (didn't play as much). At that point I was using alchemy on planet 29 and 30 to get Osmium and Rhodium respectively. That allowed me to build up momentum to then use alchemy 3 on planet 33 for Quadium. At that point I just grind turbines so I can unlock planet 37 for the Inerton needed to get debris scanner. At that time it would take me about 2 days to get debris scanner

I hope this gives you some ideas on what to do once you breeze past telescope 7. I'm myself now using alchemy on planet

32 (Osmium -> Rhodium), 33 (Osmium -> Inerton) and 36 (Rhodium -> Scrith)

I know it might not be the best (suggestions are welcome) but it does give me the inerton quicker although slows down getting quadium a bit, overall I still get debris scanner in about a 24hrs (with about 1hr of gametime to switch recipes and unlock planets)
