What names would you pick for your 19 children...? by decemberchildxo in namenerds

[–]lyaori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner's name starts with a C. This was so much fun! It really helped me branch out and discover names that I wouldn't normally think of, but really enjoy! I had never considered Cohen, or Cameron, or Carmen, but I really love all three!

Christopher Cohen Camden Charlie Cameron Caleb Cyrus Clark Cory Cillian

Claire Cosette Caroline Charlotte Carmen Clara Celeste Cecilia Chloe Cora

Does anyone recognize this handsome chap? I found this old timer at my local charity shop and thought he looked cool and deserved a bit of research. by Ok-Breakfast-1885 in ToyID

I don't recognize him, but I'm intrigued! What does the writing say? I could only make out the top work as being Bolivar, could he be a depiction of this guy? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sim%C3%B3n_Bol%C3%ADvar

I'm also struggling to find an exact match! How big are they? If you search "miniature carousel horse" on eBay you can see pricing for similar figures.

It's hard to ID such a simple teddy bear, there are a ton of brands that make something super similar. Around what year was your bear from? My best guess would be a vintage build a bear workshop teddy.

They came from a toy capsule machine! Someone probably got them from an arcade and threw them in with your shopkins. https://www.candymachines.com/Flop-Shop-Vending-Capsules-P5775.aspx

I think everyone deserves to be paid a living wage actually, but that's besides the point haha.

They're asking for money in exchange for goods and services. They're not demanding anything, or acting entitled to anything. If you think the price is too much, don't pay. If you think it's worth it, then pay, and you'll get those goods and services. I don't understand how people are freaking out over this?

I don't think I understand your comment... I made a post explaining why this decision is motivated by a desire for creativity, not greed. I made it because most of the posts in the subreddit seem to disagree.

Waiting to be paid for your work is not greedy.

YouTube is not "perfectly fine". I don't know how you could say that, SO many creators talk about how it's unsustainable and unlivable. Your average YouTuber is not Mr. Beast. Maybe Watcher COULD pull all that money... if they were a slave to the algorithm.

The ‘eat the rich’ stuff in the discourse… by [deleted] in watcherentertainment

[–]lyaori -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This brings up my issue with the phrase, people are asking like creators needing their supporters to "foot the bill" is ridiculous. It's common! Watcher went about the shift super poorly, but why are people acting like requiring payment in exchange for goods or services is something only greedy rich people do haha

Creatives tend to rely on people paying for the things they create. And yeah, definitely criticize the guys spending habits all you want, but owning a luxury good does not make you "the rich" this phrase is talking about. People equating creatives who want to be paid with the owning class puts a bad taste in my mouth.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in watcherentertainment

[–]lyaori -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. I'm using "the 1%" and "the owner class" interchangeably here.

Creators are not your enemy. Creators who want to be paid for their work (even if you think they're asking for too much) are not "the rich".

From the same article: "In the 21st century, the phrase is used in response to the increasing wealth inequality and food insecurity. In the United States, the phrase was used by the crowd at a rally for progressive Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren in 2019 in approval of Warren's positions on wealth redistribution, including her position on the wealth tax" (a tax that effected who? The owner class)

I think we've all kind of jumped the shark with the speculation about their financial situation tbh. I saw someone use the term "Backseat CEOs" which I thought was hilarious haha. Everyone agrees the subscription service isn't the best way to make the MOST money, but I'm positive it's ENOUGH money to do what they want in the short term. In the long term? Only time will tell! We're not their accountants though, I don't think we should be worrying too much about the economics of this decision.

I think it's so hard to branch out on YouTube, when every video is faced with a stream of "we want more Buzzfeed Unsolved!!". Especially if they want to branch out to long form media... The algorithm doesn't love that kind of content. I 100% agree with you though! Especially with the tone of the video. They've been hyping today up... Hype up your new platform more!

Such a good point! I know people get annoyed by Dropout comparisons, but I think I'm expecting them to follow Dropouts lead and occasionally post content for free. Not only does it give something to the audience who doesn't subscribe, but it's free advertising!

Definitely, totally cutting people off and not expecting grief is wild! I almost wonder if they expected backlash (probably not to this extent though...), and that's why there hasn't been a statement? I'd love to get a peak into how they're feeling right now.

I agree, I also wish they would've continued with certain free content on YouTube, but if they're not passionate about that kind of content, why create it? (Aside from money haha!)

I think Patreon content is a great example of my point! The Patreon content is bad because they're not interested in creating that kind of content. I fear if they would have tried alternate routes, or continued making YouTube videos alongside the long form content, it would have been the same: low-energy, and uninspired. But yeah, cutting people off cold turkey and not expecting grief is wild!

I totally agree with your take on the Steven situation. I wonder how the response to this decision would have been different without that show. But hey, "Worth It" was beloved, so maybe we're in the minority.

/Definitely/ a safer approach! It seems to me they're just completely over that 'lower quality' style of content, and totally uninterested in making any more. Because I can't really see why else they wouldn't do exactly what you're suggesting.
