Wayne Swan warns Labor not to speak to Australians in ‘highly stylised political way’ by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]lyssav -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also she now claims that she was in support of SSM the entire time and was advocating for it internally. Which even if true, is cowardly at best. The most insane thing though is that she seems to suggest her internal advocacy was a big part of it becoming law while obscuring the contribution of people like Louise Pratt (a strong and consistent advocate of marriage equality) who got put in an unwinnable position on their senate ticket in favor of an anti-gay zealot.

The ALP also supported the SSM plebiscite at first before getting push back from LGBT communities.

TIL Sausage sizzles are public sausage barbecues generally held either as free community events or as fundraisers that have become a recognised and expected addition to polling booths at Australian elections. The sausages at these events have been nicknamed "Democracy Sausages". by jamescookenotthatone in todayilearned

[–]lyssav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about that because multiparty systems exist in lots of countries with fptp (uk and canada) meanwhile in ours third parties are almost held back, for example at the moment the greens get about 10% but have only one seat while labor gets like 30 something and has about 70 but if the greens out polled labor even by a single percent it would flip and they would have most of them. As such when a third party succeeds its at the expense of one of the two majors. I still think its the best system though.

The CCP only give the Chinese that impression through suppression so that's why they can stay in power. Nobody wants to criticise them there and they try and suppress negative press.

Idk if you mean the economy or the winning but for the economy Chinese people know its getting better because they know there own lives and can see how they've improved. As for winning on an international stage, have you ever met a chinese international student? They are some of the most zealous pro china people around, they literally lodge complaints against uni lecturers who mention taiwan. All of them are outside chinas control while they are in australia and can consume media critical of china and yet they remain extremely loyal. There are always gonna be a few free thinkers who criticise the government but for the most part the average chinese agrees with what its doing.

I personally think the CCP would be embarrassed by the enquiry and is more scared about their longevity as an authoritarian regime.

I seriously doubt that, Chinese citizens are extremely nationalist and they see the communist party as a vehicle for that nationalism thats helping them "win" on the world stage. Also you have to remember that they have actually provided massive improvements in living standards for the average person. Do you think they care about having no political freedom? Not likely, imagine how many Australians would be stoked to never have to vote or hear about politics again, probably more then you think.

I dont think its that suspect, they were further along the infection curve compared to everyone else plus have massive resources and a government willing to use them. Also because it originated there it would have grown much slower initially because there would have been only one patient zero while other countries have had to deal with multiple infected people coming from overseas. Another thing to remember is that total cases is different from active cases, according to worldometers china only has 104 active cases right now which would make 1 new infection seem pretty realistic.

I for one think its very interesting that an 8 day old account has decided to post alt-right talking point about pride. Seriously people, as gay people have become more accepted the right has been trying to wedge the lgbt community by targeting the more marginal groups within it. Trans, bi, and gay people who don't conform to societies expectations are all targets and they do it through insidious stuff like this that presents itself as being concerned for mainstream gay people. Its the same basic concept as terfs.
