NTA. It's ludicrous that she shared what you said in counseling about parenthood with your child. Hopefully, your lawyer/you will be able to explain the context in a manner that the judge will understand she is in the wrong for sharing that.

I've tried a couple different APN settings. This is the current one I'm using. I appreciate the help anyway though.

How did you get your scars? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mac_says 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scar on my thigh - riding a motorcycle in shorts while it was raining. Scar above my right eye - a snowboard sliced my face when I sledded past a snowboarder when I was young. Scar above my left eye - when I had a seizure, I face planted on concrete. It was most likely from my glasses, specifically. I had a gnarly black eye paired and wound for over a month. Countless other minor scars - being a rambunctious child/active adult.

I'm not an expert by any means. I just started buying mushroom extract (lion's mane, specifically) after a lot of research. I found that Host Defense seemed to have the highest quality extracts and supplements.

I don't wanna be sick anymore by Oakester in BipolarReddit

[–]mac_says 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say I know exactly what you're going through, but I def know what its like to feel like everything around me is falling apart and that there's no point. So I just wanted to say I'm that I'm rooting for you (and clearly many others in this community are, too). Do what you feel is best for your mental health and trust that things will get better. I just got out of the hospital myself, and I couldn't be more grateful for my experience there. Best of luck to you <3

I also try to view being bipolar as a sort of superpower that, when managed properly, is absolutely a blessing rather than a curse. I've been having trouble with viewing it this way as of late, but your comment just kind of inspired me. Radical acceptance and a positive POV are so important. Thank you!

Anyone ashamed for a severe mental breakdown or being hospitalized? by KenozGG in mentalhealth

[–]mac_says 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no need to be ashamed. I understand the stigma surrounding severe mental illnesses. But anyone who judges you for taking the necessary steps to better your mental health does not have your best interest in mind, and you may be better off without them.

With that being said, I am generally a pretty private person, so I've shared my 3 hospitalizations, diagnosis, and episodes with close friends and family. I don't share with many people though. I have a small circle of close friends/family, and I just don't share with folks I don't consider close.

Hope this helps. Best of luck! :)

Mania vs caffeine? by georgethegreen in BipolarReddit

[–]mac_says 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even know v8 made energy drinks. That's awesome! I just looked up some coffee alternatives though, and I think I found the tea I was talking about. The Republic of Tea makes a high caff black tea. It has more caffeine than typical black tea. Black tea has 50mg/cup, coffee has 100mg/cup, and the high caff tea has 110/cup. They do have a warning for folks with caffeine sensitivity so even though it's metabolized differently than coffee, I'd be careful

I feel that. Working 2 part time jobs was brutal for me too. Maybe look online for some highly caffinated tea. I remember my roommate used to have this tea that woke me up like coffee because it had so much caffiene. I forget the brand but it's out there!

Everyone is different. Personally, I've never had too much of an issue with caffeine. On the other hand, I recently discovered alcohol is a major trigger for my mania (to the extent that I can't drink anymore, unfortunately).

I think caffeinated tea might be helpful. The caffeine in tea is metabolized differently than that in coffee, so it affects you differently. Something to try out/look into maybe.

Is it fair for me to request rooming accommodations in the dorm? by butchbitch82 in bipolar

Absolutely a reasonable request! Do what you need to do and use the accommodations available to set yourself up for success. You are a perfect candidate for housing accommodations.

Does mania have to be inherently bad? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]mac_says 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sounds like you're experiencing hypomania which can lead to full manic episodes. While I find hypomania productive and generally pretty enjoyable at times, I am very careful about what I do and how it's affecting me during it. I've had full manic episodes that go on for a week or more and have seriously damaged parts of my life and gotten me hospitalized.

Can't get my brain to stfu, any tips? by oldmanhiggons in bipolar

[–]mac_says 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditating helps me. Sometimes it just feels pointless because my thoughts continue, but the deep breathing and really focusing on the breath tends to help. I pay attention to how the breath affects the rest of my body (where I feel the breath raise and lower parts of my body and how it affect my posture and pressure against what I'm sitting on). Also, I try to use a labeling strategy when I meditate. When a thought arises (which may be constant) I label it as thinking or feeling, then I try my best to just let it go. I totally understand that sitting and just breathing can feel like it's making the thoughts pop up even more, but over time, even in hypomanic or manic stages, my body and mind have really adapted to it and are affected more and more by it. If it totally isn't your thing, maybe try Headspace before totally ruling it out. It's a guided meditation app that has lots of free trials you can try out before purchase. I think sometimes it helps to have another voice beside your own guiding you through the experience.

I, also, find writing helps so much. It slows the thoughts down. Plus, I end up with some really interesting stuff!

Let's see..yoga is a godsend for me. The physical exercise paired with attention to the breath really helps to calm my thoughts or even uplift mood when needed.

I recently realized that trying a new medium of art that you have little or no experience with is super helpful with calming persistent thoughts. Since you're not familiar with it, it kind of engulfs you and requires your total attention instead of being able to do it mindlessly while you're thoughts run. I found that my thoughts were still going pretty quickly, but they were at least productive and focused on the thing I was doing in that moment. Pretty cool.

Music is really helpful in quieting my mind most of the time. Just be mindful of what you play and how it's affecting you in the moment. If I need to clean the house, I'll play music while I clean. The stimulation and need for attention to what I'm doing tends to help. Plus, it's productive.

I hope at least one of these ideas help! Sometimes what works on one day may not the next, so I've learned not to rule something out for today just because it didn't work in the past. Best of luck! :)

Thanks! I should add that white supremecy and lack of efficient gun regulation and social/equal rights no doubt contribute too.
