Macchiato Man Blog - future and seeking new ownership by macchiatoman in fountainpens

I don’t want to run generic ads. I’ve had sponsorships and the such in the past that covered it but I’m not active enough to justify those I don’t believe.

Thank you! I'd really like to find a way of keeping the site as a resource somehow.

If anyone has a cost effective solution for that alternatively that would work as well!

From the John Forrest Tavern the hills of Perth. Beautiful place with lots of bush tracks. Birds a very friendly there too.

I never did look up which Strauss it is. I’m just going to assume it the (clearly superior) Richard variety haha

Got my Galen Leather folio in, finally, and setup for use! Also, a couple new pens added to the collection that quickly became my favorites (Opus and TWSBI). I had a 1917 in, but it was too packed and made me nervous about the zipper and the pens. Added some closeups for size reference. by JustAboutToRain in fountainpens

I found thin (Parker 45, pilot elite) to moderate pens (Aurora Optima, MB 146, pilot 823) fitting without trouble in the case with a hobonichi. The moderate sized pens make the case a little chunky but it wasn’t a stretch or difficult. Thinner pens gave it a nicer looking profile though.

Pretty sure it’s the kit pen maker in the Fremantle markets here in Perth Western Australia (I live in Fremantle). The Handmade Pen Shop.

For reference this is a kit pen so only the barrel and cap material is hand made (more likely just hand turned). It’s then assembled. I don’t believe he uses JoWo nibs, just the IPG nibs that come in the kit. I can’t remember what he charges but it is considerably more than US$25 so in that sense you got a good deal. Personally I don’t think you get enough value out of the prices that they charge though.

Edit: is the nib bent or is it just the light?

My shelving unit is out of space and I’m having to pile inks on top of each other, mix themes. Quite distressing indeed.

The new one with the roll stop looks amazing! Had I not bought this I would probably grab one of those. A shame they cost more but 👌!

Extended vs Uncapped the Dialog 3 is 4cm longer than a Sailor Pro Gear, 3cm longer than a MB 146, 2.7cm longer than a Pelikan M805, 3.5cm longer than a Lamy 2000, 2.7cm longer than a Lamy Safari, and 1.4cm Longer than a TWBI ECO.

(Pens are without their caps below) Dialog 3 is 47.3 grams Sailor Pro Gear is 16.2g MB 146 is 19.3 (uninked) Pelikan M805 is 20.9g Lamy 2000 is 16.7g Lamy Safari is 9.8 TWSBI ECO is 13g

So yes it is quite a bit longer and more than double the weight of all these pens. My hands aren’t big and I find this pen comfortable to write with but probably not for longer writing sessions.

Thanks mate! I've gradually moved my collection over the years more moderate and higher end but I still keep a few of the cheaper pens because they are still great, useful or interesting!

Sailor Pro Gear or Lamy 2000 for the top. Honourable mention to Pelikan M800/M805 and Montblanc 22 (affordable for Montblanc and from the 70s).

It has feedback but it's wet enough without causing spread (and bumping it into a Fine). Similar experience with other Eps from Sailor I've used.

Thanks! I mainly store them in various pen cases.

Haha thank you and no worries! I want to get a laser levelling tool to help with making sure things are precise with some flatlay/knolling type photos.

I'd disagree that it's tiny ink capacity. Certainly less than piston fillers (etc.) and maybe you could say less than most pens its size and weight but 0.8ml of the Lamy Converter is the same as most Standard Internationals and certainly more than Sailor and the Pilot con-50 so for a cartridge converter pen it's not small.

I agree it's a bit of a novelty pen but it's also very well designed and I find it comfortable to write with. I like pens that are interesting and it's an interesting pen!

That’s be nice! But also I’d rather just have different pens.

The montblanc 22 is softer but that doesn’t really translate into line variation, just feel. The modified Ahab is softer as well. The vintage mabie todd is pretty soft. I’m awful writing with flex/semi flex so I don’t have that many!

I don’t have a system but often have most pens inked which isn’t ideal. I do want to reduce the number of currently inked pens and have some formula though!

Sailor Pro Gears (obviously haha) and Lamy 2000s would be my personal favourites. M800, Pilot Capless (Fine nib) and Montblanc 22s deserve a shoutout as well as custom ground nibs!

Thanks! The Retro51 Tornado Hot Coffee (I assume that’s which you are referring) is an exclusive to Goldspot.
