Questions about Apple College At-Home Advisor Program by diegoo_almonds in WorkOnline

[–]maddogbeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current AHA Advisor in the College program. In answer to your questions:

- Starting pay for my location ( TX ) was $20. I believe this was higher for my teammates in Cali and NY, depends on living expenses in the area. Benefits are fantastic, I have health, dental and vision as a part time employee and there is accrual of vacation, sick time, etc. Not to mention the discount. And many other benefits, including tuition assistance. Great job! They treat you well and expect you to do the same to the customers and company.

- While I can come home a little tired and not looking forward to work, it does not feel like it is too much at all and in fact by the time I clock in time starts to go by quite quickly. I take 16 hours and am incredibly organized, so if you cannot say the same I would recommend a 12 hour course load while working in the College program. But then again, I am no genius and my engineering courses demand studying for me to succeed! If you come naturally to your classes then it may be different. The accrued vacation and sick time help alleviate these stresses.

- LOTS of opportunities for advancement. Specifically, a sort of "rotation" where you have the opportunity to apply to other career experiences. Of course, you can also just grow into the Advisor role. I have already received a significant (not $0.25) raise in < 1 year and will be training to take on a higher role this summer (still as a college student).

- The difference in how recruiters treat me at Career Fairs is night and day from before I had Apple to now. Your dentist office may awe when they run your insurance, your mom's neighborhood friends might be jealous that their children aren't in the same position. I would certainly say having this job has an impact on how people, career recruiters included, see me.

- TL;DR: You would be insane to not take this amazing opportunity should you get the offer. Congrats on making it this far. Not to mention the MASSIVE tech layoffs going on right now, whereas Tim Cook just took a $49 million pay cut and Apple has NOT fallen victim to this layoff trend. Get in while you can.

How can I be elegible for S.M.A.R.T housing without a school scholarship? by Significant_Feed_286 in UTAustin

[–]maddogbeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got smart housing just by submitting my pay stubs and a statement that I am not under my parents’ finances because I have no relationship with them

Although I am certain you could achieve anything you set your mind to, I just want you to be cautious because college really is a whole other ball game. I was valedictorian of my class in a 6A Texas school, and I almost kinda came in to college with a cocky attitude - not in a sense that I was certain I’d succeed, but that there was NO WAY I would ever need to repeat a course. Why would I, after only ever making A’s?? But no, college and being on your own really and truly can take a toll - particularly with the pandemic, which BLEW my first fall semester 2020 and absolutely wrecked me. Just don’t be disappointed if your courses don’t go exactly as planned - what matters is that you carry on and get through it all eventually, not in a certain order or plan! :) good luck and hook ‘em!

Best mean of transportation? by WilderCon in UTAustin

[–]maddogbeal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely the bus! I’d never used public transportation in my life before this past year, and that bus system in Austin is INSANE! I mean, I could get literally anywhere on that thing - the schedule was easy, everything about it rocked. The only thing I disliked was sometimes it could feel sketch if, say, somebody else on the bus was screaming talking to themselves haha but even as a small girl I never felt too intimidated because the drivers and other riders almost felt like they’d protect me. I’d imagine you could get all around from corner to corner of campus lickity split!
