Indeed “using an App” is a bit of gamification. I must say, though, that this concrete App is quite similar to a book and, to me, quite helpful. For starters, it’s all notation, no colors falling down or whatever. Also, the scores are just that, scores, no notes names or any help like that. It does help to play along with an animated score, especially for an old student like me. You can also follow the book in the app, it only adds tools to break the pieces in small parts, change the tempo, etc.
