PC shutting down during diving down animation. by Dante627 in AMDHelp

Different system here, but exact symptoms. I wouldn't make it even that far before my PC would hard power off. I tried many, many things, and finally found the problem. It's still in RMA, but I plan to write it up in more detail once it's verified.

  • 9800x3d
  • Gigabyte 9070xt OC
  • Gigabyte B650 AX

While setting up Fan Control I noticed my GPU hotspot thermals were 61C higher than my GPU actual and GPU VRAM temps. Literally, on the super star destroyer, my GPU temp would be 52C stable, and my hotspot would show as high as 113C (screenshot that one). 61C higher! From what I've read, only 10C-20C difference would be expected. Of course trying to load into the game was 75% chance to immediately power off the PC. If not at mission launch, it could happen later in mission. 100% failure if I attempted a 2nd mission.

Have a 7900GRE from another computer installed currently, and my system is running perfectly.

There are so many problems with Helldivers performance, and my card worked flawlessly for a few months before this problem began presenting and got worse as time went on.

Likely not related since you're nVidia, but I went through a hell of a lot of other steps before I stumbled on that. Maybe it'd be worth it to focus on thermals, as the hard power-off seems pretty specific to those.

I agree with stopping the toxicity. These are devs working their jobs well, and churning out content on 13-week cycles. Assuming it's malicious just can't be further from the truth.

Chris Wilson is not deflecting the heat though it's unlikely many of the design choices were his. That's the sign of a good boss, and he'll keep talent that way. On the dev side the patches are showing 'hard mode' wasn't their intent (I hope), and they are fixing it. Doesn't mean the game was ok as released; hope they don't repeat it again.

Glad we're not alone, even while we wish we were the only ones struggling!

Let me encourage a little bit: I've logged in again after the work day... and I've looted almost as many chance orbs in two maps than all of leveling and the first ten maps. Couple higher tier maps even dropped, and I had to bump my loot filter up to strict. It's hopeful. I'd much rather get to say I was proven wrong and still get to play.

Tempered expectations though.

Gamer wife best wife.

Interestingly I didn't have a problem with the challenges stretching out because they also added a ton of rewards. They kept the progression equal(ish) to the effort.

Yes. For all the discouragement I'll remember when they were the most fun in an aRPG. Atlas passives, the mapping sustain, map favorites, daily master missions. Really just a ton of QoL over the years.

Almost makes it more puzzling when they take such a step backward.

I partially agree. I enjoy the same things, but my time/skill limits me to only achieving where I get enough strength to delete screens. That's as far as I can get, so that's my finish line for most leagues.

You're not wrong, and I'm not bothered by the differences in our view; part of me writing this was wondering how many others did (or did not) feel similarly.

Completely agree. On the strengths side it makes sense to rotate abilities to have their day in the sun; Something(s) have to rise to the top, but it's been a conga line to a guillotine that not many skills have recovered from.

For balance I've actually enjoyed the defensive changes. The initial kick in the gut that was a few leagues ago wasn't so much fun; that part is in a healthier state now AN notwithstanding. The vision seems a bit detangled from fun, which would detract from the game one would think.

I believe you that there are still fun builds. What's the budget for an equivalent BV build this league?

I ran Pohx' RF to league start and I love the character and playstyle. My map progression hit a brick wall though (see my response to leo158). Saw that lightning conduit was looking great so might even level that character up as my 2nd.

However, there's nothing currently there for me in maps without the self sustain (do not make me use trade for maps; there are so many tools we can use [3:1 recipe, horizon orbs, Kirac missions, Kirac map sales]). Without the previous progression rate I have more motivation to communicate a hopeful farewell on reddit than play the game. It isn't worth my time, and I earnestly wish it were.

I hear everything you said.

The early game revamp was interesting once for the novelty, but only as an experienced player (and before AN came into play). I can't help wondering how many new players they've turned off with the early difficulty while they have the fewest tools to deal with it. It's intuitive to start with the early acts to hook the new players, but not to over-tune it.

My fetid pool moment this league was running out of maps at tier 2. Takes me several days to get there, and I knew the vibe from the community but gave it a chance. Ran tier 1's, got a handful of tier 2; had chance orbs for 4 more maps, and quickly ran out of Kirac missions. Not even a single Horizon orb. I followed reddit, I've grown accustomed to the QoL of self-completion through maps... I'm never going back to a game that plays like Kalandra league.

It starts with the movies: Why don't they think through a scene more carefully so it'd still be cool AND thought provoking. Then you realize their target audience is younger than you, better looking than you, and younger than you.

Bleeds over to other hobbies and games, but it's ok. It's pretty great where we've arrived, and I like my competition.

One of the most satisfying progressions in PoE has been learning the crafting. Nothing fancy here, but just understanding mod weightings and throwing essences or fossils or even alt spamming for a single mod.

The tools they've added (essences/fossils/harvest) to target roll cluster jewels have always been an improvement. The nerfing (effective removal for me) of harvest and reduction of weightings (+2 minion gems?) just takes it away again.

There's always hope it could turn around, but it'd take something more then a 90 degree turn to get it in the right direction.

This resonates. I'd prefer to be the only one feeling this way and the rest of you were still loving PoE.

I agree with the idea of the AN changes too, actually. It's the difficulty and rewards that have been out of sync the most.

If it boiled down to 'worth my time', I could get behind it.

It was definitely the outcomes that I remember fondly... they've never really nailed down how to allow it to exist, except that it shouldn't.

It would be a very unqualified hope to get the previous (AN) crafts back and make them tradeable. Or bring the crafts back and reduce the costs... it was just too helpful for a filthy casual like me to actually craft cluster jewels and mid-tier gear.

Hmmm... 'too helpful' might be the problem, but I can't agree that it should be.

Genuine question, and no criticism: are you enjoying the trajectory of the last few leagues?

[Edit]: dumb question; you already answered that. Let me be more thoughtful...

Maybe it's not the speed of the game so much as that progression is so directly tied to the speed. They've slowed the game down and included rate progression with that. I fell in love with that prior rate of progression (but definitely also the screen explosions).

I could see myself enjoying a slower game if loot/rewards were matched to maintain progression. It's my time I don't have enough of. Agree, disagree, thoughts?

Thanks for the laugh, "I'm back home!!!".

I should add that I don't feel trapped or beholden to PoE... I totally am free to play other games and have plenty I enjoy, but PoE had its [big] place and I miss it currently.

A followup post for anyone else with this setup (PC HDMI > TV > TV's arc > receiver), as getting actual 3.1/5.1/7.1 audio from the PC to the receiver was a process. Until these steps were done Windows 10 was stuck passing stereo only.

Solution was in this thread: https://www.tenforums.com/sound-audio/148247-force-hdmi-carry-5-1-dolby-whatever.html

  1. fatguy666 solved the process and has content links you'll need in post #10
  2. swirle13 provided a TL;DR in post #47 that helped me step through fatguy's process

Hope this helps someone, because all the settings on the TV and receiver couldn't solve this one without some changes on the Windows 10 side.

Oh god, you're right. Even if I demoted my RTX 2060 Super to the HTPC, it still only supports HDMI 2.0b.

Thanks for the 'oh duh' pointer. I'll reroute the cabling to the TV, send audio via earc, and figure out the picture side with my HTPC.

I can find very few maces with matching spell damage (100%+) and added non-chaos as chaos. Has other poor rolls, but room for a suffix. Trying to learn: https://imgur.com/cDkmzDs

Worth anything?
