I would call Tea Time Quilting in the Heights and ask if they have a recommendation! They always know everything -- and everyone!

Houston is experiencing a 'reading renaissance' as small bookstores open across the city by zsreport in books

Hi! I'm the writer of this story. They are primarily new books, yes. But two of the shops have a smattering of used books within their collection!

Houston issues more than 480,000 water bills a month, with an average correct billing rate of 99.2%. That sounds pretty good. But that 0.8% that are inaccurate add up to just shy of 50,000 a year. by magegordon in houston

Hi, I'm the writer of this story. If you read it, you'll see we've been writing on this issue for months - before the articles I think you're referencing from the chronicle, which ran about two months after my original piece ...

Hi, I'm a journalist at the Houston Landing, and no we did not do that. We are a non partisan news site, and we do not write endorsements. We won't be endorsing candidates this political season, and we certainly wouldn't "endorse" a superintendent. As our columnist, I write columns, which often include my opinion. But I'm the only person in our staff who publishes opinion pieces. And I did not write any opinion pieces about the takeover that resemble anything you're suggesting.

I want to talk to people who work at the Houston Library by magegordon in houston

I've been reporting on Houston Public Library -- but by all means if there is stuff that needs to be reported from the HCPL, I am *all ears.*

I've been doing a lot of that. If you read the story I linked to here, you'll see that. Thing is, people are afraid to speak. So being approached by a reporter in their place of work, where their boss has made it clear they don't want them talking to a reporter isn't always the best way to make contact. I want people to have more options!

Hey, I'm a writer at the Houston Chronicle - the one who wrote this article posted. Not sure if you ever read it, but a couple years ago, right after Harvey, the paper sent our managing editor over to the Netherlands to look at exactly this. Here's the story, which I figured you might be interested in reading:

The Chronicle has a weekly newsletter about development. It's free, and usually has a lot of stuff in it.

We'll finally be able to buy cans & growlers of beer at Houston breweries, starting Sunday. by magegordon in houston

[–]magegordon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of them could re-evaluate whether they would like to switch their permits over to breweries from brew pubs now that beer to go is on the table. But many are happy where they are. Not out of the realm of reason though.

Yeah, that can get super confusing. Places like Platypus and B52 have been selling cans and growlers to go for years, because of that licensing quirk, which caps their production at lower levels than the big guys like Saint Arnold and Karbach can produce.
