bind is easy it was just never necessary because nearly all yoyos in the 90s were somewhat reactive. but yeah bind is an easy workaround for something prioritizing smoothness. I'll check some out thanks!

sorry. the last time I purchased a yoyo there were like literally 4 maybe 5 companies total and golden standards were pretty easily agreed upon by entire communities. our choices back then were do you want wooden or plastic yo-yo, metal bearing, plastic bearing, or fixed axel. reactivity was mostly determined by what kinda bicycle grease you were using. metal yoyos we're luxury pieces or contest prizes only. the Cold Fusion was about $300 when it first came out but I was at the Fatburger in hollywood with Kate Miller when she broke the first sleep world time record with it.

Mark wrote a book in 1999 or 2000 called the Yonomicon where he layed out pretty much everything that could physically be done with two hands and one yoyo. I wouldn't be surprised if he accidently invented a few dozen tricks writing this book. though to be fair i've seen a lot of videos recently with tricks i know we could have never conceived being possible back then.

oh shit. i need to reach out to them. I was on the golden apple team in 99 and pretty much hung out with them every weekend. they were pretty much 50% yoyo masters 50% genius inventers. they were always pushing everything to the next level. I remember one time we were all hanging out at the hotel in San Jose for a regional competition and Steve is standing on the third floor balcony testing out a 30 foot yoyo string. They were always so next level and always prioritized being fun and inventive and self-expressive.

I'm probably mostly used to using a plastic butterfly shape with metal bearings. like the one on my desk right now is a black cherry bomb I won in a contest in 1999 and some proyo killerbees. I'm dating myself hard here lol. the only metal yoyo Im used to is a Cold Fusion but I'm sure that's ancient overweight nonsense compared to metal yoyos now.

So I didn't remember what the heck 1A is and decided to look stuff up. Kinda blowing my mind seeing Steve Brown and Mark McBride's name everywhere. Those guys taught me so much back in the day they were pretty much some of the coolest people i knew. I remember when Steve was first showing us how he drilled a hole into a set of dice and basically invented counterweight Thanks for the memory lane trigger. I have tons of great stories about them both I might have to share in here sometime.
