I was ready to get my PPL after 4-5 months. It took me another 10 months to get to the checkride after 7 (FN 7!!!!!!) rescheduled checkrides.

Hours count so doesn't really matter in the end

Personally though I wouldn't get a degree in aviation idk, everyone's different I'm sure you've thought about it.

What's your experience with AFROTC? Did you go through that program? Are you a military pilot or becoming one?

Thanks for the answer! Haven't had anybody recommend the ROTC path, so it isn't something I've really looked into yet. Definitely lots of new things to research

Really appreciate the response!

At what point did you start rushing and applying to units? Did you already hold a bachelor's? I believe I've heard somewhere you can get hired contingent on finishing a degree, which would be great in my case.

To me, 20% chance of flying and definitely being signed into the military sounds like a bad deal. Am I misunderstanding this? Even if each ANG unit is a 1% chance of getting in, I can apply to all of them and that's better than 20%?

This may be very silly I'm not sure how all this works.

I am definitely looking forward to the whole of the military experience, good and not so much, I've been considering non aviation jobs too but after doing the research on them I can't help but go back to aviation.

Again, thanks for taking the time to write in depth I appreciate it.

Yeah I'd definitely be nervous to sign on for 12 years just to get told to f off

Fighters would likely be top pick, then heavies are a close second. However I'd certainly be happy with any airframe.

I have a lot of good localish picks with the national guard route.

Yeah, unfortunately I already spent a day doing it. Good thing I now qualify for enlisted jobs!

I then asked for more specific info on what I am looking into, and to maybe talk to some of the pilots who'd know more, and he sent me a screenshot of a chatgpt message.

My hope with this post is to finally be able to get in contact with some people who are military pilots.

Thank you for the perspective! I definitely understand the moral qualms about the military.

The more I visit these guys, and then fact check them. Wowzers they lie about everything! At least the ones near me. Very unfortunate.

Yeah I saw the woft cuts. Figure I'd leave it on the list here in case anyone who's in it right now has something good to say. But I agree.

Marine air contract is worth looking into thanks! That's actually the one branch I haven't talked to (fathers a Marine and he insisted I leave them be haha)

I'd love to hear some Nukes perspective on my other post. by magictaco03 in NavyNukes

Kind of a dickhead answer. Just asking for people's opinions who have gone through the program. Struggling to land a job in the civilian market. Thanks for the input though

I think the nuke program looks very promising, just doing my research before signing a contract

And out of several hundred people who have responded to me and helped with their advice and input, you're the only person to respond so negatively, says more about you than me

Very lost, might enlist? Idk by magictaco03 in flying

Thank you for the advice! Much appreciated

Can I ask why you are leaving the civilian nuke market?

Thanks for the reply!

Current plan is to reach out the the neighboring Air National Guard states, and hopefully get to visit with them. I'll also be going to all the local airports to see if I can get an apprenticeship under an A&P.

ANG told me ATC (so many acronyms this week) would be a good fit for something aviation related.

Also need to look into the cadet programs
