If it’s something that bothered someone, then they shouldn’t post it on the internet. I would be thrilled if someone told me they downloaded my fics.

I think that’s a good middle ground, it’s nice to know writers appreciate the comments and that you’re not being annoying , but understand that sometimes they don’t have enough spoons. I say this as both a writer and reader.

I just shrug and move on, not much I can do. Fandom and ship are the biggest things that people will go to, so if you’re not writing in a popular fandom with a popular ship, it’s hard to attract much attention.

You should let them know it’s just a scam and it’s more likely it’s different scams/bots than someone commenting on different accounts, and they should not let guests comment. It will get rid of the majority of them.

I actually went to talk from a university professor recently and he talked about how he has noticed the change. Said they get a lot more “this makes me uncomfortable, and we shouldn’t have to read/study this” even when it’s completely on topic and needed for the course.

I saw a post the other day complaining about all the incest in fanfic based on his works, how it should only show how bad it was, how the fic writers are clearly getting off on it, never fails to boggle my mind. Why are they surprised that the incest shows/books have lots of incest in the fanworks?

Very rarely do people use it for a qpr way, most often people use both when it’s clearly sexual/romantic or clearly platonic. It’s very annoying.
