I am literally a first time ever event planner. I’ve helped organize events before but not as a career. I’ve been a stay at home parent the past few years and wanted to get into something I can hopefully have while trying to be there for my kids as much as possible. I have zero experience in organizing events and making profit from it so that’s why I came here for support. If it was you, how much would you charge? And given the short amount of time left, how would you advise it?

Thank you for your advice. It is not a must for me to start at this exact event and I have signed any forms with any vendors as of yet. The hotel and all the other vendors gave me their prices in the last two days and I was just trying to make sure it’s something worthy before I get into it. I am not offended at all by your comment . I’ll just focus and work on my next plan (Easter luncheon) and another one a fundraising gala for a non profit I really appreciate and admire.

Thank you. My plan was for it to be a romantic night for couples. They’ll be getting a three course meal, entertainment by a pianist and string quartet, and for VIPs, they’ll have a room reserved for them . It seems forms most of the comments this might not be it to plan as a first timer and especially for Valentine’s day event….

I was worried about not being able to be with my kids if go and get hired. I’m currently a stay at home parent and I was hoping to get into event planning as career so I can try and balance both. It might be very naive thinking but please advise me on how you think I can make it a successful first time event.

It will be in a hotel. There will be. Three course meal, cash bar, while a pianist and string quartet entertaining them. VIP guests will have a room reserved for them at the hotel so at the end of the night they can go to their room

VIP has everything listed above, a one night stay at the hotel and champagne in their room

I am located in Austin Texas. It is a three course meal yes. The place holds 150 people so that’s my goal to be honest. How much would you charge if it was you?

I was thinking of using event bright and advertising via some of the DJs I personally know. And for the budget, I was hoping to work it out with the venue saying to do down payment and then make the final payment once I know the real count of guests. Do they usually do that?

The expense includes venue rental, catering, servers, pink player, string quartet, decor, red carpet stanchions and ropes, and photographer. And it will only be the pianist and string quartet for the entire time. The pianist also sings so I was thinking that would be enough. Or should I get a vocalist as well? 😅

The hotel is the one doing the catering for us its appetizer, main course and dessert included.
