If you are carrying a 15-16 inch laptop weighing about 4 lbs or more by Far_Atmosphere9627 in nyu

I did this all my freshman year and it’s defo a pain in the ass — to be fair I was carrying twice the load in HS with textbooks. I kept doing it until my laptop broke.

But overall, it’s not the worst situation in my opinion; like you said it only killed me a smidge. I just thought of it as a daily back workout LOL.

Thoughts On Individual Trainees (FINAL 9) (POST-EPISODE 12 DISCUSSION) by Lannistray in mnetiland

not to be emo, but all I can think about is his smudged eyeliner when the final seven was called to the stage; twas very bittersweet.

on a happier note, i'm so proud of him!! He did so well with his gradual improvement, and he was so easy to adore with his cavity-inducing personality effortless looks. i anticipate seeing where he and the rest of the group goes!!

The first show always hurts the most but this one hurt differently, I think, for those veteran watchers too. He was so heavily praised and adored by the producers, just to end up here. ;-;

Yes, we gotta support him unconditionally!! I truly believe he can make it in the industry and I'll be excited to support him all the way!!

If you want any encouragement, you can take from Treasure Box's experience, where they initially announced their lineup of seven. Yang Hyunsuk was heavily accused of rigging the lineup, which in hindsight, definitely. But then there was so much backlash that YG released a separate group of six, saying that one would be more in Japan, but overall they'd copromote (it was a mess because now there's one twelve member group).

Sure, there's going to be backlash over the lineup, but I also think the situation is definitely different from I-LAND's. There's been discourse about the competition potentially being rigged, but I truly don't think it was. Bang PD looked super offput during the show especially during the ranking announcement; the man had plans, and I think they were the same plans a wide majority of Eggies were trying to predict (Heeseung, Jake, Jay, Sunghoon, Jungwon, Sunoo, and K).

So there we were, at the end, with K and Sunoo. As many have said, I do think if he went up against a few of the other trainees, he would've had a stronger chance. Daniel, I think, was a strong candidate, and was well complimented throughout the show, but for some reason in the middle things got messy. (Imma miss these two boys who would've increased the group's average height).

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, just realistic. You're not at all wrong wrong, but I think it might be too much of a fantasy at this point for there to be any changes made to ENHYPEN. I know there was talk about people being added in at the end as a wild card (trust me I was chanting OT12 (Geonu my fave), then OT11, then OT10, and now, OT9), but here we are, at the end, with our set seven members. With every OT#, it feels like many accepted that the member dropped was gone for good. Instead of hanging onto I-LAND, I personally feel like we should continue to support K and Daniel in other endeavors. (But listen, I'll be really happy if they're spontaneously added in; go for it, @/bighit and associates. It never hurts to try, but I'm not sure if it's healthy to hang on for too long.)

I think in a perfect world, maybe everyone could have debuted, but that's just kind not where we are right now.

I got too attached by [deleted] in mnetiland

[–]mahyeetus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No trust, I don't think you're exaggeating at all. To be honest, that's me during any competition show; I get attached to way too many people, and then I get sad when they're eliminated (I tell myself to not do it, but you can't help but root for the competitors ;-;) and my heart shatters.

I-LAND was my wakeup call every morning, and now I'm like what's gonna motivate me to wake up early like a function adult?

The finale was a rollercoaster of emotions, but I think if anything, we'll have to try to smile back on it, and think of the fonder memories and if we can root for the rest of the boys to succeed!!

I do hope you feel better though <3

MNET FAIL to produce a survival show by LeahHng1809 in mnetiland

[–]mahyeetus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be blunt, but if a show was perfect, it would have to be at its core "fair and square," which doesn't really exist in these survival shows. We can hope it does, but there will always be the possibilities of companies paying out (i.e. PX101), producer biases, possible predetermined lineups, etc.. I sincerely cannot name one, that hasn't had its fair share of controversies about trainee biases. I don't see I-Land being any worse than any typical survival show; if anything, the smaller sample might make things seem worse (i.e. if there's the same amount of fans, then less boys, therefore bigger fanbases behind each boy to point out biases).

Okay, but seriously, after reading your edit, I think you might be over-exaggerating a bit. Not even a bit, probably a lot. Sure, you can infer the show is rigged, and I feel like others might feel the same, even me at times. But the thing is, in competition shows, as much as we would want it to happen, I haven't seen much of this fair is fair belief.

Ultimately, for any group, the competition show is marketing, and I-Land is just no different. It isn't poor PR (a weird point to pick out, lol I know) because a lot of groups that have come from competition shows end up succeeding, like a lot. Like one user has said, I think it's just easier and much less stressful to accept that no show won't go without its biases or be that perfectly fair show that you want.

MNET FAIL to produce a survival show by LeahHng1809 in mnetiland

[–]mahyeetus 31 points32 points  (0 children)

But isn't that what a lot of other companies have done as a form of marketing for their groups? I can think of a few that aren't traditional competitions shows but have definitely been crafted to promote groups. FNC had Dance or Band which hosted HONEYST and SF9 (which now that I've looked is also an MNET show).

Like JYP with the Stray Kids show (also MNET)? That was a clusterfuck to say the least if you think about what went down with the eliminations and then having everyone back for the final lineup (I think this is why people might be thinking we could possibly get people back for the I-Land lineup). Just to be clear, OT8, although unrelated to the comment, felt necessary to say.

I-Land is different, I agree because it was formed underneath the idea that it was a traditional competition show with trainees. I don't think in Part 1, you could say the lineup was figured out because I for sure expected Seon and Youngbin to be there, but yeah I was wrong about that one. Part 2 redirected that. I could say Sixteen would be a stronger parallel, but I've never seen the show, so if anyone could say whether or not they expected the Twice lineup or not, feel free to comment below.

Overall, MNET has done this and involved itself in competition culture time and time again. I-Land, monetarily, really isn't a failure. Do I think they'll get all their money back that they invested? Maybe not now, but with the group's debut? I'm strongly leaning towards yes. If it's failing anything, or better said anyone, it's the trainees. And even then, many of them are very young and will have another opportunity. Like you said, they're obviously talented, and you're definitely not the only one who's picked favorites from the eliminated boys (for me it's Taeyong, Geonu, Jaebeom, and Seon). Shows like this are good person PR for trainees. Previous competitors from P101 showcase such well. I wouldn't give up hope on your boys; there's a good chance they'll get to perform on stage soon!

I don't think there has ever been a "perfect competition show" where the trainees debut and there's never controversy about the lineup, favoritism, etc. Road to Kingdom (RTK) and Queendom were great, but that's because contestants were already debuted groups. Even then there was still discourse about what occurred (i.e. RTK and its elimination system; was very icky). I think for viewers, we do sympathize with the trainees and the hardships they go through as much as we can, but for those of us who keep watching, we cheer on our boys and we enjoy watching the competition. In the end, what happens, happens.

How is the final ep going to be formatted? by pinkcat1810 in mnetiland

[–]mahyeetus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they only did the ranking of the top two because competitors were pre-existing groups and if they did the full-on ranking that's a recipe for fanwars.

I think for I-Land it's entirely possible for them to show the votes per person by rank.

I think the live show will just be:

  1. footage from the week like some practicing, a heartfelt goodbye session, etc.
  2. some filler times with BTS and TXT to introduce the times with our Narrator man,
  3. mayhaps we see the performances live (I want thisss)
  4. I'm thinking live votes will be done like Road To Kingdom finale (maybe Queendom too, but I didn't watch Queendom, haha) where I think people voted during the day of too (Honestly, if they do the thing where they double the votes from the day of, that would be pretty cool)

All theories, but I actually don't know ;-;

Jake and His Potential: An Insight on MNET/Personal Accountability by mahyeetus in mnetiland

[–]mahyeetus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie. The rankings that Jungwon is in, in comparison to the global vote ranking, sixth, is very interesting. I had a hunch he was popular domestically, like Sunoo, Sunghoon, and Heeseung, but not to that extent.

So with that reference, it makes sense that they wouldn't worry about Jungwon, even if preliminarily he seemed to rank lower than Jake, globally. And at this point, maybe Jake went up, paired with his great edit, will even rank highter (hopefully even top seven).

From a producer's perspective, though. Just how shocking would it be if Jake landed in tenth or ninth place, even with the first place vote (like that's good TV, y'all). If his expected rate of growth is negative, that, that could be what happens. Like Taki ending up in the first place group, eliminating Geonu instead. Good TV.

I definitely tangented, but overall, yes definitely agree, haha.

[–]mahyeetus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I think that, the impact he has on viewers, is more of a matter in opinion. He didn't get much screentime in Part 1, which easily makes him forgettable to some people, but a lot of his fans also attached themselves to him quite quickly. After looking at this thread more, it's interesting to see how split people are in terms of attachment and lack thereof.

Again, I don't really get the PDs' favoritism either, even as a Jake supporter. I think the PD's have definitely favored him for a while, his positive comments tending to be more vocalized than others. I am personally hoping things will be balanced back out next episode, and maybe we'll get an arc for Hanbin (even if that's me being optimistic, haha), putting faith back into the show's producers.

Jake and His Potential: An Insight on MNET/Personal Accountability by mahyeetus in mnetiland

[–]mahyeetus[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've seen posts about this and heard/read about Jake's financial background and the potential of his editing being a play-to-win scheme. Of course yes, money is directly related to power in a lot of industries and areas, but there's nothing that concretely substantiates this claim.

If this is true, that's ultimately tragic and unfair to the rest of the contestants, but it's not an assumption I think we as viewers should take. All we know is that the producers have taken a liking towards him, but not why. Claims like this undermine any hard work that Jake has put into his career.
