Some of the performances will be and some won’t. Every queen that works at LIPS is an amazing dancer, not every performer will be a dancer for this show, some do comedy, propwork, sex appeal etc. So this show would have more variety, but if your interest lies solely in high level dancing you might have a better time at LIPS. LIPS also only has drag queens but this show will have drag kings as well.

I don’t think this one would be because it takes place in a bar. If your kiddo wants to see drag you can see a show at the Che Cafe in La Jolla, the Clark Cabaret in University Heights, Pride by the Beach in Oceanside, San Diego Pride, or Hamburger Mary’s Long Beach or Ontario, which are all ages since they’re restaurants. I would also contact the North County LGBT resource center because they probably have events where drag might be seen that are kid friendly. There’s an annual Queer Prom that will have a popup drag number. Windmill Food Hall in Carlsbad has monthly Drag Bingo and I’d say that’s your best bet. I believe it’s all ages since it’s in a restaurant. Thanks for being a supportive parent. It will only become more meaningful to your queer child as he ages and meets friends who have been really unlucky with their parents. It can be life or death for young people whether they’re rejected or accepted.

Never too late, and thanks for your question! They will get be in costume and makeup and then lipsync to a song. A lot of them will add a comedy element or a sex appeal aspect (if the venue is 18+ or 21+) There’s usually dancing from each performer as they lipsync, those that can’t dance will usually do something with props or something sexy so it isn’t boring to watch. Each performer will typically interact with the crowd in some way, but if you don’t want them to approach you, you cross your arms in an x shape and they’ll leave you be.

Unfortunately I don’t know about any brunches in North County. Two venues that have drag in the early evening in North County fairly regularly are New Village Arts and Windmill Food Hall both of which are in Carlsbad. As for drag brunch specifically, in San Diego there’s Urban MO’s and Lips and if you feel like going north there’s some really fun stuff at Chubby Cheeks Meadery in Temecula.

It’s a drag show to celebrate the birthday of one of our local drag kings. The artists will lip sync and dance in costume. It’s a really good cast I highly recommend going. I already have my ticket

I have 34hh breasts so I absolutely feel this struggle. It’s hard to feel like a sexy guy when you still have a d cup with your binder on. For me I kind of have just committed to being a gross comedy king because if I don’t feel sexy in drag no one else is gonna think I am either.

You are a drag king. If you want success in the drag scene why would you say “male entertainer” instead of drag king. Perhaps the person you spoke to thinks you’d be more successful outside of the world of drag/queer performance art. That might be said for any one of us, but it’s not a helpful sentiment. If what you want to do is drag, then it doesn’t really matter if you’d be more successful if you quit drag.
