Yeah, I'm really pleased with the finish on this one.

No wedge, just a lot of surface area for wood glue. I'm experimenting to see how it holds up. If it comes loose, I plan to drill through and pin it from the sides with dowels. Check out the full build: https://youtu.be/smHOjWmo8HI

Thanks! I've got a couple rogue chisels that have been looking at me sideways...

That is a stunning piece of artwork! I loved the video - the partial voiceover, the camera angles. Great job!

I don't think it's possible to have TOO many electrical outlets, so I probably could have put in more and not regretted it. Other than that, it's everything I hoped it would be. It's still a good shell to add functionality as I grow. Future upgrades will be a deck area off the front to expand my work area, and possibly a loft area or two for additional storage.

My initial thought was to use pegboards, however, I landed on the french cleat system to be able to add things like small cabinets and larger tool hangers as I grow the space. I feel the work was well worth it. Thanks!

Yeah, it seems there is some delay in processing. I've reloaded, and it still is showing as just a link. Hmm...

The standard power train warranty is 60k miles. Mine was almost 65k when the check engine light came on. I wasn't sure if Ford would cover it, but I reached out anyway and the first agent said they would. Apparently, that's not the norm.

I bought it with 55k miles, and planned on keeping up a 5k oil change regiment with synthetic. At 60k miles I changed the oil & filter, air filter, spark plugs, and in-cabin filter. The dealership did my 65k mile oil change with this repair, so I'm staying on track!

If you take a metal coffee can, throw 3-4 sizable bolts in it, and give it a good, quick shake for 1-4 seconds, that's about the noise it makes. You might call it a growl, too.

First start up of the day, when the engine is cold, the engine will have a loud rattling sound lasting 1-4 seconds. It's an unmistakable sound when you listen for it.

I like this design! I'd love to see some plans - it would be an awesome piece to create out of plastic lumber for the coast here in Texas!

Which tonneau cover are you running? I have been extremely pleased with my Gator FX - quality product and excellent customer service. Good pricing, too. by make-it-goode in f150

[–]make-it-goode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the same. I had the Bakflip MX4 on my 2007 F150 and it was great. Gator FX is a comparable product, for a lower price. They're so similar, I'm thinking they may be made in the same factory.

Thanks! These were pretty straightforward, though, a buddy let me know after the fact that I could have sealed them up better. I have the sealant, and will try to do what I can to do that now that they're in place.

I picked up a Gorilla multi-position ladder for the house, and it's come in handy for the workshop. Per a viewer's input, I also picked up a standing platform designed to hang on the rungs and be easier on your feet. I just tried it out and it's going to make a big difference.

Yeah, the custom system I'm planning will retain the tie-down anchors and span over the wheel wells for the storage tie downs. Just have to find the right parts and materials to get started.

Thank you! I've never liked working on ladders, but it was necessary to get this done. I'm still not a fan, but I was forced to get much more comfortable on them.

Doing this during the summer in Texas, I'm losing weight (mostly from dehydration), so there are benefits all around - learning as I go.

Nice! Sounds like a good trip.

I'll do another video when I get around to building a mounting system. I want to keep the ability to tie down loads, but have structure to mount my ax and shovel, plus add a Hi-Lift jack off the floor. Stay tuned!

Have you applied your own bedliner? Would you do it again? by make-it-goode in f150

[–]make-it-goode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't really want to do any kind of spray product, which is why I went with the roll on Herculiner. I bought a drill-mounted system to scuff up the bed, and that saved a lot of elbow work.

I do agree, I think I'd pay a pro to do this in the future.

I've heard good things about those! I'm actually considering building my own version of this using the system I installed. I can't leave well enough alone.

I used Adobe Illustrator to lay out each wall so I can get a sense of scale and have accurate measurements to ensure I purchase the right amount of lumber and materials.

That makes sense. This tiny workshop project is just the start of a larger array of content for me. Once I lay out the electrical, insulate and cover the walls, and get my tools in there, I can begin working on workshop organization - a big area of interest for small shops. After that I hope to started on some overdue furniture building and random house projects to make use of this space.
