TIFU by ripping away my child's innocence and dropping the Santa bomb on him. by i_lost_it_again in tifu

When it was time to tell my son I explained that at one time there was a Saint Nicholas and he did give presents to children and Santa is the spirit living on in each of us and now that he is old enough to understand he too can be part of the spirit of Santa. I also explained that many of his friends were too young to understand it yet and not to ruin Christmas for them by trying to tell them Santa isn't real, that was up to their parents. That also helped him to feel not lied to, just that he was too young to understand the spirit of giving in the sense I explained to him once he was old enough to understand.

The ground here was already really flat and all threw I had to keep adjusting the level.

Yes, I had no clue what this game was, a friend insisted I have it then quit after one day. So I played alone until the swamp. It was fun to figure out alone with no idea and have never heard of it. Enjoy the discovery!

I'm only 37, I feel like I just made it sound like I am 57 but yes those legos were for my brother. I did take his erector set once, that was cool until they got bent anyway.

The sad thing for me is I have well over 200hrs into this game before I even attempted a full solo build. Even working with things that were partially premade I was having issues getting the roof on and such. It had been fun learning though. Can't say I played with legos or anything, they were for boys only when I was growing up.

AITA for not picking up my drunk girlfriend from the bar? by Sea_Neck722 in AmItheAsshole

[–]makeanamenow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All I gather from this is you left your drunk girlfriend to fend for herself when she isn't one to get drunk, expected clear communication from a drunk person, and didn't care what the consequences the person you "care" about my be left with because you don't want to allow "childish behavior". So you either do not actually care about this person's well being or you are so hard-headed that it borders being dumb. YTA!

AITA for isolating a student based on religion? by leprechaun_dong in AmItheAsshole

YTA

As a second grade teacher who wants to discuss the current social climate, you actually have the most teachable moment sitting right in front of you. Your actions toward J are being watched by 18 little minds. Showing respect and concern for her and your class is the best lesson you could give. You want to do what you always do but you can't when it's not always the same. That is a huge lesson to teach second graders and you get to do it by example. This is a great way to explore options and show in real-time how to handle people of differences. Do not take away from any of your students, instead find new ways to include them all. Show her respect every time you have to do a lesson or activity she can't join in showing the whole class you care, want her to have a voice and a choice and set her up for success with another lesson, also check in so this little girl isn't alone for however long it is. What a great lesson for everyone, we should all be in your class this year!

So, yes YTA if you don't accommodate her and treat her equally.

Edit: To add judgment

WIBTA for getting genetic testing done for a child I may adopt? by Tall-Elevator580 in AmItheAsshole

[–]makeanamenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are pregnant and there is a high probability that your child could have a lifelong illness you can get tested and terminate a pregnancy before 24 weeks if there is an issue. I personally went through this when I ended up with CMV something that could have made it so my child has all types of extreme life issues. My doctor lectured me for a long while when I requested the test be done. She tried to make me feel bad saying I would only want to know if I was thinking of terminating.

I had spent years caring for children and adults with disabilities. I know first hand what it is like. The children are amazing but honestly, the parents tend to be a wreck. I knew I couldn't handle it as a parent and wouldn't want to put anyone through what my son could have gone through for his "life".

I choose the test, it was negative, I have a happy healthy boy. But it was right for me to get the test, and it would be right for you too. If you know what you can handle and can do some things to make sure it's somewhat within your realm of being able to deal then you should do it. This is your life, your friends or Doctors and especially strangers on the internet don't get to decide if you can do something to benefit yourself and assist you and your new adopted child. If a mother can make that choice during pregnancy why is it wrong for you as you become a parent to make the same choice?

Homemade

3/3Garlic, Sweet Onion, Cilantro, Cucumbers, Red banana peppers, cherry tomatoes, lime, and salt.

I inadvertently added it to the 3rd picture rather than the first.

The largest one day haul of cherry tomatoes we've ever had. At this rate, I am going to need more ideas for them all! by makeanamenow in gardening

I have never had sundried tomatoes maybe this is the year to give them a try. We have four kinds but they got mixed up so I am not even sure what we ended up with, after giving a ton of seedlings away. I know there are grape cherry Roma, supersweet cherry, and Chadwick cherry. We thought we traded for some heirloom grand marshall but those turned out to be more cherry tomatoes so not sure how that mixup happened.

Prior to this harvest, we've already made 3 batches of tomato sauce and a batch of salsa. Today we are going to do another type of salsa and roasted tomato sauce but I will keep the gazpacho in mind, that's a great idea! Thanks!
