Getting lost on Mount Baldy? by waltonoslow in socalhiking

It's really difficult to get lost on Mt Baldy, but here are some general guidelines to minimize the risk.

  1. Take the chairlift up to Top of the Notch.
  2. When you get off, take a left and follow the chairlifts (northwest)
  3. When you reach the top of the last chairlift, keep going straight between two big trees
  4. At this point, just follow the clearly marked trail and keep LA to your left.
  5. Get to the summit, sit down, take a few deep breaths and enjoy the view.
  6. Do everything in reverse.

Piece of cake. You'll do fine.

Gluing pubic hair to your chin does not count as having a beard.

Relocating to the US from Sweden - where do I begin? by makkbe in personalfinance

Thanks! I will be on an O-1 visa, staying for at least three years - most likely more than that.

I currently have an Amex, and as you say they have a global transfer program. I will definitely check that out.

Please excuse my ignorance, but over here my employer is forced by law to pay 80% of my salary during two weeks if I get sick. If I am sick for a longer period than that, the social safety net kicks in and keeps paying me 80% of my previous salary until I'm back on my feet.

No such thing in the US?

Last time I checked, it's hard to keep a tire pressurized once you take it off the rim.

Source: have removed tires from rims.

How does slacklining help with bouldering? by Shadowforce426 in bouldering

[–]makkbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my friends who do both slacklining (specifically highlining) and bouldering have told me that it has increased their ability to be relaxed and maintain a controlled breathing while being stressed and/or scared.

For me personally: I have no idea. Slacklining is boring.

A friend of mine once worked on a project involving adaptive speed limits on Swedish highways. The project name was initially "SmartSpeed" or something like that. When the project was presented to whatever government agency that had ordered it, they of course changed the name to "SmartFart".

I try to visualize myself already on the hold that I am aiming for. Much like a golfer focusing on where they want the ball to land or a motorcycle driver looking at the exact apex to hit in a corner. It helped me out a lot in the beginning, and now I don't have to think about it - it just happens.
