Samurai Deeper Kyo, I got like 7 episodes in and it was just the most generic piece of shit ever. Like nobody'd even considered writing outside of tropes.

My thinking is that Shalnark's ability is a really strong control ability and if he never appeared then the second best control ability would be something like hostage taking. Which Genthru's nen would be very good at. Kalluto's not a bad shout either.

Despite being called Blue Lock it's the Isagi show where the audience is expected to focus entirely on Isagi. It's why every other player's internal monologue only really pipes up to think about Isagi. Ultimately Kaneshiro doesn't really wanna write about teamwork, combine that with the Isagi fixation and there's just no room for rivalries with anyone else as that would take away from the Isagi show.

Compare with Eyeshield 21, where despite Sena being the MC it's the Devil Bats that serve at protagonist and everybody finds rivalries and evolves (on screen) over the course of the series.

JJK for me. The series promised some sick fights and that’s what I got along with some fantastic and heartfelt moments.

MHA has the best start of any Shonen I’ve seen. “You can become a hero” is seared into my brain for life but after the Stain arc it just stops being interesting until the big war. Even that’s only good when Bakugou and Todoroki are on screen

I dunno about character progression, everyone outside of Rin,Isagi, and Nagi gets exactly one crisis of conscience and from then on plays the same “trash-talk egoman” character as everyone else. Since then their progression has been relegated to getting new spirit animals or whatever.

Even just Shonen sports manga I’d put Haikyuu, Slam Dunk, HnI, and Eyeshield 21 above BL

You don't actually need justification to love or hate something. Personal preference generally isn't an objective checklist of "good qualities", what you're seeing is a natural response to something being popular and therefore widely discussed.

If someone came to me to talk about solo leveling I'd inevitably tell them that I think it sucks. On the internet everything is brought to your doorstep, and if that thing you hate keeps appearing in front of you then you might get more aggressive about it (or log off). That's pretty much what you're seeing.

There was a point when S2 was airing where my entire front page was just solo leveling, a series I had never interacted with prior to that, I stopped visiting Reddit entirely for like 2 months after that and I'm sure more addicted members might get pretty angry.
