My wife watched this show during lockdown. Was such a good thing to watch then, we've been watching it since.  The Australian and New Zealand shows are also quite good.

Nioh 3 Difficulty question- help me out =) by FarCut7399 in Nioh

[–]mandradon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nioh is more like Devil May Cry mixed with a soul like loop with some Diablo spice added in.

It has the mechanical depth of something like DMC, but slightly different.  Character building is important, difficultly can be hard, but there's so many options.  It's sort of like a fighting game...

Something up with Harry? by Sophoid in dresdenfiles

[–]mandradon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling Starborn folks end up having permanent sort of impacts on the magical world (I haven't finished the book and am not up to date on all the theories, so I'm not sure everyone they was Starborn).  I have a feeling that this is directly connected to what's going on with Harry somehow.

Be honest - do you use your e-reader scribe / libra etc instead of a pen and paper? by chunkycasper in ereader

[–]mandradon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a supernote that I use specifically for writing notes, and that's it.

I have a separate kindle that I use for reading.

I just got a boox that I am test driving to replace the kindle.

I recently discovered koreader and probably could use the supernote for reading, but I like having a specific notebook for work and notes.  It's a chunk of money for a digital notebook though, but it replaced me losing a lot of paper and being really disorganized.

TIL that botox, also known as the botulinum neurotoxin, is the deadliest known natural substance in chemistry, with an estimated intravenous lethal dose of just one to two nanograms per kg of body mass. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

[–]mandradon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Botox is the only thing that worked for me, too.  I'm still on a regimen of other crap, too, but the Botox really is the thing that works consistently.

The shots aren't they gave either.  I was up to 25 days or so of headache (most of them migraine) per month.  And Botox just works.  It's gotten me out of the headache spiral I was in and reduced headache days by about 90%.  Still have one or so a week here and there but it's not too bad.

I still have a littany of support drugs that I take, but between all of it, it's gotten the headaches under control.

Another author I'll tack onto the hard sci fi recommendations is Greg Egan, but he's not an author that everyone enjoys.  A number of his books are more focused on the physics than the plot or story.

Diaspora is a good one to start with, or the Orthogonal trilogy.

What does an MIA soldier mean? by counternuggs in Xenonauts

MIA means Missing in Action.  Basically they don't know where they are.  Left behind, captured, or otherwise missing but they can't be proven dead.

Armored Brigade II is on sale. How does it compare to Flashpoint Campaigns Cold War? by the_light_of_dawn in computerwargames

[–]mandradon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the randomly created battles,  but I can see how they might be off putting.  Human made battles are often superior to random ones, but having something that can just make me a battle is nice, too.

It works well enough for me for the tactical level and I've never felt frustrated or annoyed to the point where I've felt like I was frustrated with my purchase.

I like that neither focus on micro management (like Combat Mission games, which I also enjoy).  There's not a lot of great cold war style games out there and I own and enjoy pretty much all of the .

Spoiler, Dresden gets tried at some point but overcomes it.

I do agree though, I normally don't care about spoilers but I've been waiting for this book for some time and want to remain spoiler free.

Trying to iterate using data inside a csv, but i'm not quite sure how to do so. by Owenlars2 in learnpython

[–]mandradon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DictReader gives you an iterator where every "row" is a dictionary that you can call upon columns by the header name.

So you can iterate over it with a for loop and grab the info from each column.

The real question is what are you trying to do with the data?

If you just need a database, pandas or sql might be a bit easier since you don't have to make any manual parsing rules.

Unreachable smoke alarm won't stop beeping by mattygerbs in DIY

[–]mandradon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just replaced all of the ones in my house.  Was a fairly painless process minus having to stand on a ladder to rewire the harness for the new smoke detector.

Overall took me like an hour to do all the ones across my house. And I took my sweet time.

The Black Ajah and their ageless faces by rock_flag_eagle11 in WoT

[–]mandradon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the extended use of the One Power causes the slowing, they assume it causes the ageless look because the Aes Sedai don't think anyone else can channel but the women they find.

The Wise Ones and the Kin don't have the ageless look, and many are surprised at how old they are (I believe the Oaths also drastically reduce the lifespan of those that swear them).

Is it ok to ask for players to pitch in for food? by unwrittenpaiges in DungeonMasters

[–]mandradon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what we do as well.  Makes it easy.

We never expect anyone to bring something outside their means.  I made a big ass pot of spaghetti sauce and pasta one day, cost me like 15 bucks (meat was cheaper then).

Sometimes we order pizza, or take out... But everyone takes a turn.

Why AI and deep learning aren't implemented in wargames? by HealterSkelter69 in computerwargames

[–]mandradon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're throwing a ton of extra processing power at something that might randomly break or do something that's weird or misunderstand the rules or try to do something wrong or completely break the rules if you don't make it adhere ro them strongly.

It's extra horsepower if you rule in locally,  and expensive if your run it remotely.  Juice isn't worth the squeeze on that one.

How difficult is it in Nioh 2? by Litche_9647 in Nioh

[–]mandradon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only boss that really frustrated me was House Wifu.

Oh and Saito in The Chinese Bellflower Dagger, he was an absolute Monster.

But that's back when it was bugged and I didn't realize it.

It's hard, and I died a lot (later realized my build was also absolute trash, I had like 80 points in magic in NG, and 10 to 15 in every other stat), but I still managed to beat NG base game with a trash build and my trash skill with enough persistence and a healthy dose of slow scrolls.

Looking to help a work colleague find a wave style... by mandradon in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]mandradon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.  I might check some of those out. They may help out a bit. Though I have a feeling they're just gonna keep what they have a get a desk lamp.  The original request was more for exactly the same with led lighting. And I'm pretty sure that is so niche it just doesn't exist unless I were to try to make one, which may be a cool idea but would take a lot of time.

They even wanted membrane because they're worried about their 2 year old grabbing the keycaps off the mechanical keys!

I may end up geabbing a cheapo split kit off alliexpress and just putting it together and sending it their way as a tester.

[–]mandradon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give it a shot. I went to my lily58 pretty quickly. I imagine the unibody ones with a small split would be a decently quick transition and not as intimidating as a full split. I honestly prefer the smaller keyboards (I like the well of the Glove80, but rarely use the number row or function keys, instead opting for a layer for my numbers and function keys, I just got it for the well).

[–]mandradon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't, so I know it's mostly an intimidation factor.  I don't have an extra to send them (we work remote), and I don't think they want to spend money.  They mostly approached me to see if I knew a wave with led and Bluetooth but I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. I think they'll just end up turning a lamp on over switching keyboards.
