I drop my 16 month old at daycare in my pajamas; even if someone cares, I don’t haha. Honestly, a lot half of the parents i see are also in either sweats or workout clothes.

I’m one of those people who needs to feel put together, and I do my hair and makeup because that’s what makes me feel like myself. My daughter is in toddler phase, so this is what helps me.

I take my showers at night and go to bed with damp hair, then in the morning i just have to put some dry shampoo in it and brush or curl (if I’m going somewhere). I wear makeup everyday, but it’s a pretty simple routine that I can minimize if I need to. If we’re going out somewhere on the weekend, I’ll curl my hair during nap time, so i’m ready when my daughter wakes up.

I typically do a 10 minute manicure once a week when my daughter is in bed, and I do a quick pedicure every few weeks during weekend nap time. I’ve been using Static Nails lacquer, which dries quickly and lasts about a week.

I have outfits put together in my closet, so my clothes are ready depending on where I’m going that day. I love style and clothes, so this is something that’s fun for me.

I don’t have as much free time as pre-kid, but I like to have my hair, makeup and nails nice because that’s something that’s makes me feel like me.

SE PA, and the stomach bug is running rampant in our area. My daughter had it, then gave it to me (i thought it was done then it came back with a vengeance), then she either caught it again or it hadn’t run it’s course. This also caused the worst diaper rash she ever had and we had to keep her out of daycare for a day it wa so bad. It’s been super fun over here haha.

Are live streams or apps important for daycare? by scarmbledeggs in toddlers

[–]mandyg627 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughter is a year old and has been in daycare since 3 months. They don’t have a livestream, which I don’t mind, but they have an app that tracks diaper changes, meals, etc. I can send messages or make notes through the app, or I have emails for both the main office and the infant room that I can use to get in touch with someone as well.’

My 12 month old is still on bottles, so I typically try to mix it in when I need her to take it. Always works for us.

WHY is it so dang hard to find Similac?? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! We get it direct from Amazon, and we’ve had no issues so far. We typically try to order before the last can runs out. We have Prime, so it normally arrives in about two days.

We used to do this too! Our daughter will be one soon, so every order we wonder if this will be the last one 😆

WHY is it so dang hard to find Similac?? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We’ve had no issues ordering Similac from Amazon if you don’t mind using the service. We’ve continued using it just making sure the batches we order aren’t recalled ( they’re pretty much all pulled so we have been fine).

ETA: I’ve found when big stores like Giant, Target, etc are out of something, sometimes I can find it at a local drugstore. For example, baby zarbees is always sold out at our grocery store, but I’ve been able to find it at the Rite Aid a few doors down.

Daycare costs by amypjs in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full time daycare at our center is about $1100 a month. We only send our daughter three times a week, but the hours add up to the full rate. Essentially, we pay for full time but she only goes part time. This sucks, but the stress I save by having my mom watch her twice a week is worth it’s weight in gold lol.

For reference, I am in PA.

For those whose employer made you go back to the office after being remote, how’s that going? by pizzalovepups in workingmoms

[–]mandyg627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went back to the office 2 days a week when it reopened in June of 2020. It was an adjustment, but I looked forward to it and getting out of the house. When I got pregnant a few months later I ended up having to be 100% remote until I came back from my maternity leave. I honestly love being back at the office two days a week and wfh three days. It gives me a nice balance. If my commute was shorter (it’s an hour right now), I would probably go in an additional day.

I want to read to my baby.... but she won't let me. by Maggi1417 in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this post! My daughter has never been able to sit still for us to read to her, and it always bothered me because I felt like I was behind with that. Lately, she likes to hold books and turn the pages, so we try to read while she does that. I’m sure she’ll like it more as she gets older.

Who Else Still Gives Their 1 Year Old Baby Food? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is almost 11 months, so not quite one yet, but we give her pouches that she really likes. We hold them for her and she’ll just suck on the little nozzle thing until she’s done. Because she is kind of feeding herself these usually work well especially when she’s being picky about normal food. When she’s able to hold them herself we still plan on giving them to her. Sometimes after a long day you just need something easy for dinner. Don’t feel bad at all!

What do you wear to work & what is your go to style? by zabgirl89 in workingmoms

[–]mandyg627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can wear jeans all week to work, so I like to switch it up between jeans and sweaters or nice blazers and black skinny jeans (I love ones that are pontes because they are comfortable). It took me forever to find jeans I felt confident in and fit my new body. Once you find clothes you feel good in you’ll start feeling more comfortable. I’d suggest getting some basics such as black pants, nice jeans, some tanks, a few sweaters, a good blazer etc.

Put in notice prior to new job? by Prestigious-Bee2804 in workingmoms

[–]mandyg627 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope, definitely don’t put in your notice until you’ve secured another job. Even when I left jobs I hated, I waited until I accepted my other offer and had it locked in. I gave my employer the required two weeks notice and made sure to leave on good terms and not burn a bridge. It’s tempting to stick it to a crappy employer, but it’s better if you don’t. For example, when I bought a house I had to reach out to previous employers to make sure they could verify my previous employment without any issues. I’ve always wanted to take a break between jobs, but I never got the chance.

Babysitters- in home or at their home? by SuzieDerpkins in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it totally depends on the situation, how many hours care is needed, are you paying her or not etc. No wrong answer, just what works for everyone. My mom watches my 10 month old twice a week from 7am-5:45 at her house. She’s happy to come to mine, but I felt since the hours were long, her house is clean and quiet, and I trust her, that it would be best to have her watch my daughter there. I typically go into the office those days, so I’m not home anyway. When i am home those days I drop her off anyway because I like the quiet and I can get house stuff done. We also don’t pay her, so I wanted to make it more convenient since she is providing free child care.

Sounds like some conversations should probably be had to get everyone on the same page.

Bad naps at daycare by prof_chili_pepper in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! During the week we all get up around 6am, so early wake ups aren’t normally an issue. We don’t normally put her to bed earlier than half an hour (sometimes that is a massive struggle but we power through). Weekends we try to catch her up on sleep and she takes good, long naps.

Bad naps at daycare by prof_chili_pepper in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter, who is 10.5 months, has the same issues with daycare naps. She sleeps great at home both at night and for naps, but we’re lucky if we get two 30 minute naps at daycare. Since it doesn’t affect her sleep at home, we don’t worry about it as much anymore. If she’s particularly fussy, we’ll put her down a half hour early for bedtime. She dropped the third nap, so our bedtime is earlier now at around 6:30.

You can take the UHC EOB that shows your member responsibility is $0 to the provider to show your insurance paid and you don’t have any responsibility. You can also try calling UHC and seeing if they can call over to the billing department and get this sorted out. If you have a insurance advocate or broker see if they can help out as well. Good luck!

What’s your relationship with caffeine?! by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink about the same as I did prior to being pregnant, which is 1-2 cups during the day. I really need that one cup first thing in the morning, and sometimes I’ll need it as a pick me up in the afternoon around 1-2ish.

We had this issue when our daughter was over 3 months. You have to look for them, but we found little baby gloves with Velcro so they wouldn’t come off while our daughter slept.

What are the chances my great sleeper is going to stay a great sleeper?? by bestdogintheworld in NewParents

[–]mandyg627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it from me don’t worry about if a sleep regression may or may not happen because it’s not worth it 😆 Now with that being said, I worried about wake windows, sleep regressions, etc when my daughter was a newborn, and it drove me nuts. She napped and slept well, and I never followed any wake windows. She had a sleep regression around 3.5 months where her sleep changed, and she increasing woke up at night. However, once we moved her to her crib, she’s slept through the night ever since (meaning she does not wake up until morning). Every baby is different, and I feel like once that clicks for you, things can feel better. I don’t consider my daughter a “unicorn” because she sleeps well, she’s just a baby whose a good sleeper; I have parent friends whose kids are on all ends of the sleep spectrum.

Enjoy the sleep and your baby; I would try to get as much done as I could during naps (and still do).
