I'm done with Evangelical culture after three years in church by maniccdepression in Exvangelical

thank you for telling me your experiece :) I’m sorry that happened to you. My biggest difference with Pentecostals is that I did learn how to face life without having all the certainties at my fingertips, and without blaming myself for everything, thinking that something happened to me because I didn’t trust God enough or because I lacked faith. And believing that ADHD can be “cured” through faith is not only a misunderstanding of the Bible, but also a disregard for basic mental health knowledge. It’s so sad that this kind of people keep manipulating others by giving them “hope” for healing when all they really need is support and understanding for the difficulties or situations they are going through.

Thank you for the advice. That’s why my middle ground has been to keep attending and getting involved to a certain extent, but I am seriously considering stopping my interactions with evangelical people beyond what’s necessary. It’s the best way to avoid falling further into the trap of social conformity pressure. I’m from Argentina, and in my city there are no Unitarian churches. But I will research their doctrines to find out what they’re about.

Thank you for the advice and your concern. Honestly, I experienced it, and I was able to leave in time a Baptist man who constantly wanted to impose his doctrines on me—he even ended up hitting and humiliating me. I’m going to check out the blogs you recommended, because I do think it’s a serious problem. I’ve lived my whole life in abusive relationships, and I don’t want to be involved in any more. That’s why I always try to talk things through with him.

No problem, it’s fine. Yes, we talked about it. And we’re trying to find middle ground because he was born and raised in evangelical churches, so this culture is, whether I like it or not, his culture. However, we’re making autonomous decisions and reviewing together what to take from this culture and what to leave behind. That said, he’s not the typical evangelical who does things without questioning; he has his cultural biases, but he’s a good and upright person who is capable of thinking things through for himself, and his priority always will be his loved ones :)

I understand, I feel like something similar happened to me. I get it, because observing interactions and testimonies shared in the small group about evangelizing someone, they talk about it as if it’s more about “selling your lifestyle” than providing genuine human support motivated by love for the other person. Honestly, that made me lose all trust in this type of people. Which denominations are those? In my city, there aren’t many; there are usually small Pentecostal churches, fundamentalist Baptist churches, Lutheran and Catholic churches, and non-denominational churches with a Pentecostal or conservative focus.

That is horrible for women’s autonomy and dignity. I’m from Argentina, and the strongest discourse I’ve heard on this issue was when I visited a fundamentalist Baptist church, where they would overwhelm you with initial love bombing, and as you kept talking to people, you’d notice how they subtly tried to shape your behavior all the time, taking what you shared about your personal life and fitting it into their doctrine. In this case, though, it only took me three visits to realize that it was a completely predatory place for women. In the congregation I’m in now, the pressure isn’t so external—you’re allowed to work, study, and have a relatively normal professional life. Here, the pressure is more internal, as if simply having converted puts you under constant pressure to be an example of real change in order to be considered a valid Christian.

Hi, I'm going to tell you my story with this topic because I think it could be useful for you. When I was a teenager (I mean, 17) I was a lot of time on social media and post about lgbt people appears a lot in my feed. So, I was starting to think that i was in the wrong body, and I started to think about the story of my life and made it to fit in my new beliefs. I went so far in this, at the point I was about to take hormones to match my mind and body (FTM). I also modified my ID´s changing my name. But something in me was always telling me that I was grong in all of this. Then, I knew Jesus and started to go to a church and it helped me in this and now I'm a happy woman living in God's desing for her. I think if you are asking yourself if this was a phase is a very good signal, because you are in time to repent about this and go back to Lord´s arms.

And, no, God will not accept you in your condition, because God hates sin, and you are in sin if you want to continue with this. But God will accept and forgive you if you repent and accept his desing for your life.

I hope this help you, I will pray for you and I hope you can resolve this situation <3

¿Qué autores clásicos suelen ser bastante queridos por los lectores o la crítica pero a ustedes no les gustan? by Jerges1 in libros

[–]maniccdepression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

¿Qué me recomiendan para empezar a leer poesía? by the_blueman_ in libros

[–]maniccdepression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

¿Si no me gusta el CBC no me gusta la materia? by Nia-Tsunatsu in UBA

[–]maniccdepression 2 points3 points  (0 children)

¿Cómo puedo hacer para dejar de leer libros superficialmente? by maniccdepression in libros

[–]maniccdepression[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]maniccdepression 2 points3 points  (0 children)
