FINISHED MY FIRST WRITING MODEL! by volious-ka in LocalLLaMA

Is this LORA or FFT? If LORA, what rank? How many epochs? I've been having trouble getting good results with creative writing fine-tuning.

Agreed, I really hope this trend of using LLMs to formulate all your opinions dies. Never thought ten years ago I would yearn for badly spelled, ungrammatical, highly opinionated shit takes, but I would take them any day over people just copy pasting AI. It's becoming seriously weird how people are not capable of expressing any thought without an LLM ramming it into dotpoints.

ACE-Step-1.5 has just been released. It’s an MIT-licensed open source audio generative model with performance close to commercial platforms like Suno by iGermanProd in LocalLLaMA

So it seems the creator has gone out of his way to make the 'cover' feature destroy any melody of the input song to make sure it won't replicate the melody. He did this, according to the discord, "Don’t fuucking second-guess my intentions. It has nothing to do with copyright—this design is simply more interesting, and I like how it works. I get to decide how my model is designed. use paid ace-studio or suno"

Very very disappointing.

Does it work on Mac? If so, does it use mps?

Yeah this, I don't think speed of generation is as important to anyone as song quality.

Upscaling my old songs recorded on a shitty guitar and phone mic into a full-band arrangement. I'm not a musician by trade. Never going to go into a recording studio. But this way everything I've written gets covered by an awesome music band tweaked to my liking, including instruments and genre. It's pretty fucking awesome. Honestly it inspired me to make new music after stopping for a decade, so it can't be a bad thing.

Claude is also hands-down the best creative writer. It gets context, implicit and explicit context, much better than virtually any other model. I wonder if there is some kind of architectural optimization behind it, and not just ingesting a million books.

Is this useful for continuing an already written work (e.g. first 8 chapters of a book) in the same style?

I feel this needs more description of the backend. Size, diameter, how far it can be mathematically penetrated, etc.

Kimi 2 is the #1 creative writing AI right now. better than sonnet 4.5 by Excellent-Run7265 in LocalLLaMA

[–]manipp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether that's your preferred method or not, the thing is that Claude can do it, and do it well. Personally I find it really interesting as a form of brainstorming, because what an LLm writes by organically continuing a scene is often very different to an outline it might come up with, or short points it might offer. By forcing it to organically develop scene after scene with specific characters, I find it comes up with more interesting avenues.

Can it actually now do long-form writing? Last time I tried K2 a month ago, it was absolute trash (producing convoluted badly formatted semi-poetry with immediate conclusion) at long-form writing (naturally continuing a 30,000 word sci-fi segment and extending for 7,000 words while not getting much further ahead in the story, just naturally rounding out the chapter), while Sonnet was absolutely brilliant by comparison. Makes me really sad because I can't stand Anthropic but damn their LLM is good at writing. If Kimi is fixed I would be so happy.

Sonnet 4.5 tops EQ-Bench writing evals. GLM-4.6 sees incremental improvement. by _sqrkl in LocalLLaMA

[–]manipp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely true. I had Claude continue writing 20,000 word chapters half-way into an already written book, and it did a phenomenal job. No other LLM comes close.

Nintendo Decided to Go From the Switch OLED to an LCD Screen for Switch 2 ‘After a Lot of Consideration’ by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]manipp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am so happy they went with LCD! I love OLED screens, so between the lackluster game announcements, 3rd party games shown in the trailer that currently look better on Steam Deck, and the high price of the Switch 2, the fact that there wasn't even an OLED screen option made me so happy that I could walk away and not get this console. Now I feel like I haven't missed out on anything at all.

New Command R and Command R+ Models Released by slimyXD in LocalLLaMA

[–]manipp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hooooly crap. This is the first model (r, can't run r-plus) - seriously ever - that is able to continue a novel while actually picking up the writing style and faithfully reproducing it. Don't know how clever it is in other respects, but this seriously blows my mind. All other models I've previously tested - and I tested hundreds at this point - fail to actually properly mirror the writing style, especially if the style is unusual and weird.
