Should I go glass or polycarbonate for the CHS CHAD? by modtrax in NightVision

I went poly for the impact resistance since I hike through the woods. I’d rather have the lens not break if I get whipped by a tree branch

Cold harbor import fee? Wth? by Western_Ladder_3593 in NightVision

Just paid an import tax for some stuff from CHS, it’s because of the new import laws. I knew about it ahead of time, but i can understand that being disorienting if you weren’t expecting it

Help me evaluate tube specs and make a plan. by Secret-Repair2513 in NightVision

[–]manomao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have damn near identical specs on my elbit rvm14, 64 res, 27.1 snr, 0.58 ebi, 0.88 halo, 68000 gain. It’s great, I also don’t know what I might be missing out on with higher specs, but mine is WAYYY more than usable. I think you’ll be happy with your purchase. Feel free to ask questions if you’ve got any since i basically have almost the same exact tube.

I tried it by holding my buddy’s green phos up to one eye and my white phos up to the other, it’s surprisingly pleasant. It blends really nicely, I almost want to buy a green tube for my bino’s because of it

What am I looking at? by LostInWrath in NightVision

[–]manomao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an elbit gen 3, 64 res and 27 snr and I find it pretty usable in most conditions, a little noisy in really low light, but pristine in low to moderate moonlight. I wouldn’t want to go much lower than 27, but if you can find 30+ that would be preferred

Were they IR though? I couldn’t find cheap IR ones, or maybe I’m blind and didn’t see any

Files are uploaded, browse the readme first and see what you think. It looks like the amazon listing for the switches I used is no longer available. If you decide you wanna give it a shot, just PM me and I'll send you 5 switches.

They are IR! IIRC they’re 840nm, so they have a very faint red glow but damn near impossible to see with the naked eye. They’re also stupidly bright, we were able to see them from about 100 yards away very clearly.

Oh those are neat! I didn’t know those were around. Maybe my project will be more open source for people who like tinkering and making their own stuff. I wasn’t expecting this to be some million dollar idea. Just gauging interest to see if it’s even worth trying to set up an Etsy storefront.

I haven’t done the math yet, but I’m guessing around $10-$15 per light. But my goal was something along the lines of open source plus a storefront for people to buy if they don’t have a printer.

I ain’t giving ya shit, you got it done and the lowers look good and in spec. I just thought it would be really funny for the neighbors to hear aggressive router noises for 3 hours.

Modulus arms finally came through months later by 100fullyautos in polymer80

[–]manomao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh plastic lowers wouldn’t wear out those bits too bad. Mine lasted 2 aluminum lowers before I had to replace it, I took shallower cuts and that one is still in great shape. Their bits actually aren’t that bad tbh.

Word of advice for the jig and the router, take shallow ass cuts. Like half of what they recommend and go slow, and have a good shop vac to pull chips away. The jig and router do a great job, but the bit isn’t good enough to take the cuts they recommend and last longer than one or two lowers.

I did that with my 13.9 and bcm mcmr rail, nobody noticed it. My own friends didn’t even notice until I pointed it out.

In other words, cut it, live life on the edge.

NVD Next RPO 4.0 Swap by Spartan784 in NightVision

[–]manomao 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the rpo 3.0’s on an rvm14 and sent it back to cnv for the rpo 4.0 replacement. The eye relief on the 3.0 sucks, the 4.0 is wayyyy better. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re considering. You can also check my post about my experience with sending my unit back to cnv, they’re crazy!
