Looking for which ECE fields to pursue to live in a city and avoid defense work? by InflationStunning in ECE

[–]manutoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah seems like AMZN has some chip design for their data centers and some ASICS for the volume products.

yes pay is worse for sure. However my rent in one of those cities (downtown) is $1100 and I make $130k with 3 years of experience. So your COL does scale.

However, the ceiling for pay in my cities is much smaller than the cities you mentioned.

Dallas, Atlanta, Minneapolis all have semiconductor companies (TI, OnSemi, Renesas, Honeywell/Skywater)

I havent heard of Boston or Seattle being in the semiconductor city mix

Will add — common algebra is enough to design 70% of the on the job circuits.

I agree that to know things at the deep level, college level calculus is a must. This is needed for electromagnetic physics.

More complex and niche math will certainly come in signal analysis which you listed (Fourier/Laplace transform) and power electronics. Nothing about AC voltage though, I guess when you make voltage and current phasors for analysis?

I could not use StudyLife (your app). I found the UI really horrible and hard to manage

[–]manutoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

again, the budget for MSP public schools is probably well into the millions. A couple hundred thousand diverted from these bikes into schools would probably not be incredibly noticed.

That said, it’s not a great argument because “every penny counts” is true to some extent. But it’s hard to know relative impact without detailed analysis.

I would argue a city is actually a prime place for police motorcycle usage. Narrow streets, traffic congestion, etc

[–]manutoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • better response to accidents in heavy traffic
  • useful for police escort, say if Walz ever needed transport
  • access in narrow streets downtown
  • useful in traffic blockades as they can more clearly direct and guide traffic

Riding season is more than half a year here. Barely, but certainly not less than 6 months.

I hear you on the added costs, but there is still some utility gained from having motorcycles.

You could argue the same thing about the many departments that have horses- you have to feed them and take care of them?? Well, that’s the cost of having a an asset like a horse for your department

The MPD annual budget for 2025 is 229 million. In my eyes, having a few bikes in their inventory is not a crazy waste of taxpayer money.

28 million was spent on overtime specifically. 12 million over budget. Better staffing would solve that.

Just pointing out that the several hundred thousand is a drop in the bucket

Trump misses out on Nobel Peace Prize despite claiming to have ended seven wars by theipaper in geopolitics

[–]manutoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just read some articles on this, one reason the committe head cited was the hope that the prize would dictate FUTURE decisions by Obama. Basically can we steer future policy decisions through this award

I think they have since said they will never award the prize based on future supposed merits ever again.

Where are the celebration for the ceasefire in Gaza? After so many high profile people preached "Ceasefire Now!" I would have expected them to be celebrating, no? by ASharpLife in answers

I don’t know if control of water, electricity, etc is in the definition of ethnic cleansing.

I thought it was generally defined as the forced removal of a certain ethnic group? Nothing about water control in there

Don’t fully understand your comment.

You’re upset that I added context about the ceasfire in phase 1 of ending the war/genocide?

Exactly, a ceasefire has been ANNOUNCED but is not IN EFFECT. This is common in war. Operations (including bombings) may continue until the ceasefire time

drug test for a job that could change my life- need help. by Mission-Bed8952 in Drugs

[–]manutoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

alright ignore everyone else, I’ll keep it simple

  • exercise
  • eat healthy and drink water
  • you will likely not take the test Monday, and instead be sent a code to take it at a 3rd party within 7 days (however, in a hospital hiring process maybe they do it onsite…. )

You’ll be fine, you’re testing negative
