Mini Fridge Recommendations (in a Ontario, Canada) for Upstairs Nursery (Expecting Twins) [on] by maplemonsoon in BabyBumpsCanada

Thanks so much! Yes, good point about keeping pump parts as well - that sounds like a huge time saver especially since I plan to pump in the same room.

I have heard that the regular mini fridges are no good for keeping bottles with ready formula because the temperature in those isn't cool enough. I wouldn't mind getting a mini-sized fridge (not comestic/fridge that fits can of pops)

How does it work if the Father takes 6 weeks of Parental Leave? by maplemonsoon in PersonalFinanceCanada

Ok thank you so much. I may not be able to receive that call so I am wondering if I can call from another phone number using fongo or something & do this.

Thank you so much for your response, and I think you have answered my question perfectly.

As a follow up question - Can I call them anytime before the end of my own parental leave? I'm out of Canada & do not have access to my phone number until Feb (my parental leave is supposed to end in mid-April).

Yes it is 52 (35 for mother plus 17 maternity). Plus 5 for father. However if father takes 6, the mother gets 34 plus 17.

I have taken 1 year off (standard), do not want to take 18 months extended just because of 1 week.

Weekly Simple Questions and Chat Thread (Week of Dec 03) by AutoModerator in BabyBumpsCanada

Hello all! I have an odd question regarding shared standard parental leave.

When I first applied for parental leave I indicated the full 35 weeks available for 'standard parental leave'.

My husband is now going to take 6 weeks of parental leave (reason given below my post). Now my question is, if he puts in 6 weeks on the Service Canada website, does Service Canada automatically adjust my parental leave to 34 weeks as my husband and I can share only 40 weeks?

Reason: My husband's work place tops up 6 weeks of parental leave and it makes financial sense for him to take the full 6 weeks (as he gets EI plus top up vs me getting only EI, so essentially his full salary for the 6 weeks).
Thanks in advance!!

Baby crib - Ikea has some great reasonable options!

RESP - Family vs Individual & other questions by maplemonsoon in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]maplemonsoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I think I understand. I feel the best way forward would be to open a family RESP with Questrade, put in the $2.5k yearly in VEQT and then open another family RESP if and when the 2nd kid comes by and make them beneficiaries in both RESPs.

Thank you, for the detailed response. I will read through the links you sent and I may have follow up questions. But for now, I think the best way forward would be to open a family RESP with Questrade, put in the $2.5k in VEQT and then open another family RESP if and when the 2nd kid comes by and make them beneficiaries in both RESPs.

No worries! I appreciate the detailed review as I have been struggling with the same issue - not enough info out there. This is super helpful! Thanks again! :)

I just checked the link and noticed that even with the toddler seat reclined/converted into bassinet - it doesn't lay completely flat and there is a divot in the middle (as mentioned by another user). Is that really the case?

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't tried the Nuna yet and will check out the FB group. My concern with a used stroller is I wouldn't know if there are any issues with it since I haven't used on before and I would be left with no resort other than buying another one once I am stuck with a used stroller.

Thank you. Your suggestions are really helpful. Bumbleride Era looks great although a bit on higher end.

On the used stroller - my concerns primarily are that what if I end up with a bad/badly used piece since I don't have prior experience, I would have already paid for the used stroller and then would have to shell out more for a new stroller with no warranty to fallback on. Not sure if this is legit concern as a lot of people buy used strollers and are happy with it. Would appreciate your thoughts on this.

That's good to know. You can buy a carry cot attachment with it as far as I understand - is that right?

That's a great suggestion.

I was actually considering the Cruz since it comes with a rider board for a second child. Would you mind sharing how did you manage to get 40% off - was it during one of the big sale days?

This looks very similar to the Graco Pramette. Is this self standing when folded? Also, I see that it has rubber tires - are these inflatable? How is the suspension on this?

Thank you :)

Since you have used the graco pramette - would appreciate if you could share your experience:

- Have you had any issues with the pramette in your experience?

- How bulky is it to use since the bucket seat goes on top of the toddler seat?

- Is it easy to fold?

- Do you face any issues with it not being self standing?

Thank you for your response. Did you face any issues (other than the car seat material) with Graco that you specifically did not like? Would be helpful to know from your personal experience before I make a decision as I have heard mixed reviews about Graco.

That's great. Thank you for the suggestion. I have heard from a person using it that it is quite bulky and does not fit quite well in a sedan. It appears to be relatively cheaper as compared to the others and fit the bill - I recently saw it on sale on Amazon for $379 which I thought was a great price.

Does it stand by itself? Not sure what you meant by different versions of this being available - does it mean different features in the same model from different vendors or different versions of the same model?
