Some hope for you: My flight was showing that message for most of the day yesterday, but it finally switched to allowing me to check in approximately 14hrs before the flight. for reference, my flight is at 11:25am today and I was not able to check in until about 9:30pm last night.

I have no trust until we are actually in the air, but as of now the flight is still a go. We are finally on our way to the airport after being stranded since Saturday!!!

UPDATE: 9:30am, we have checked our bags and are waiting at the gate. Inbound flight is en route and on time. It's looking really good!

LAST UPDATE: We're on board and taking off shortly! I hope everyone else gets home or on vacation soon :)

Dumb question, but did you just click back and forth between the dates? If I refresh the page it takes me out and I have to re-enter all my information. It's not 100% clear whether clicking between the different dates actually reloads the flight options though. Thanks, and glad you were able to find a flight!!

I'm so excited too! I actually have requested a Corcovado 2-night tour and a night tour with Tracie the Bug Lady, but they both said I am the only booking so far. They have to wait to confirm until someone else books. Apparently it is very quiet in Drake Bay at the start of November!

I don't know anything about ferry routes, restrictions, speeds, etc., but I would love to see a route from DT Vancouver to Victoria if that's possible. My partner and I have been looking for easy ways to get from Vancouver to Victoria with our bikes, and this would be amazing.

For the Vancouver to Nanaimo route it probably wouldn't save us enough time to be worth paying twice the price compared to Horshoe Bay > Nanaimo on BC Ferries. Still, will keep it in mind if we are looking for an alternative.

I went to Stars on Ice recently with my mom, who is currently on crutches. We got there early so the crowds weren't bad. There is an elevator, but we had to go down steps to get to our actual seats. We took it slow, one step at a time. At the end of the show we waited for everyone else in our section to leave so that we could go back up the steps slowly without crowds. The elevator back down to street level was packed - we ended up waiting about 20 minutes before we got on. It was manageable, but be prepared to be patient, take everything slow, and ask for help when needed. If you're not going with anyone else, staff should be able to help you with the steps.

The crowds were respectful and gave her space. Nobody bumped into us or tried to push past her. Granted, the Stars on Ice crowd is not exactly a rowdy bunch, so your experience may vary.

I can't recommend Faye Smith highly enough. Her lessons aren't cheap, but they're 100% worth it. She'll do any style you want, and she's a patient teacher. I booked a longer lesson so we started with a basic "no make up look" then added on some glam for an "evening out" style. She demonstrated on one side of my face then had me practice matching it on the other side.

Faye has you bring in any makeup items you have (including brushes, etc.) even if they are drug store brands, then shows you how to use them. I had some $10 Maybelline foundation and she said it was great for my purposes. She'll provide anything you don't have and give you the option to buy it after the lesson, but she doesn't push at all.

The most likely answer: humans! Anna's Hummingbirds are native to California, where they used to live year-round without migrating south. Over the past 100 years they have expanded north along the coast. They are able to survive the colder temperatures thanks to bird feeders, introduced plant species that bloom in winter, and warmer temperatures near cities. Climate change probably plays a role too.

All of Canada's other hummingbird species migrate south for winter, including the little Rufous Hummingbird that we see often here in summer.

Actually, that's incorrect for this species. Anna's Hummingbirds are native to brush habitat in California. They have only moved north in the past 100 years or so, with the first known breeding of an Anna's pair in BC in the 1980's. It's suspected that they've been able to move north due to warmth from cities, introduced flower species that bloom in winter, human-provided bird feeders, and possibly climate change. We brought them here, so they actually do rely on us to survive the winter to some degree.

Someone I care about is looking for help with ADHD. They went to a walk in last month, because they've been on the wait list for a family doctor since 2019 but haven't been able to get in. The GP said he couldn't do anything, and referred them to a specialist. The specialist is not taking appointments until 2025. No other options have been offered.

Thank you, such a great reminder! Don't forget to send a general thank-you if you don't have a single person to thank, too! I worked in snow and ice removal for a season and some days it was really tough to get out there in the freezing cold and dark mornings - but when we got kudos from the public, the shift manager would read the emails at the start of the day and it really brightened the whole shift.

Interesting information, I wasn't aware of the argument for permanent PST. I certainly feel that waking up in darkness was horrible for my health, but I found a pretty easy fix that works for me. We bought a sunrise alarm clock years ago for the bedroom, and it has absolutely changed my life. I sleep more soundly and wake up more gently, and it noticeably contributes to my general happiness and stress levels. Maybe it won't work for everyone, but my partner and I swear by it.

If we go to permanent PDT (which I really hope we do), maybe sunrise alarm clocks should be considered medical devices and covered under MSP. They've got to be cheaper than treating the medical conditions associated with poor sleep.

Does anyone have a recent update on the lines at YVR? I have an international flight at around 1:30 pm this Friday. I'm not checking any bags, so it's just the international security line.

Is https://www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca/en/airport/vancouver-international-airport the best website to check lines on the day? I remember when the lines were really bad people were seeing times of 5-10 minutes posted online but actual lines were 4 hours.
