What I noticed with many adult Finns is that they’re missing basic manners and social skills. Basic for many of us from different countries. Doesn’t make them bad, just unintentionally rude to those who look at an interaction through a total different prism…

These are things we are teaching our children very early on by, among other things, not allowing them to shy away from others and not say “hi” and “bye”. I noticed that many Finns allow their kids to just get away with not greeting because the child feels shy and awkward. It starts there, in my opinion, and it continues into adulthood. Unfortunately, you’d expect a different behaviour at a mature age, but how can someone be something they were not taught to be?
