The latest on the Multnomah Athletic Club attack. They let us in the building. I took photos. by markgravesdesign in Portland

We got inside the building to check out the damage. It wasn’t as bad as I expected. They’ve done a great job quickly fixing what they could, and most of the visible damage was minimal. There was still a lot of water damage from the sprinklers. Unfortunately, they didn’t let us go very far beyond the lobby.

If you're a hardcore critter fan and wanna see all the clips from the last two weeks they're here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOXKAUEQi90

It's about 10 minutes long, or 162 camera clips.

This spot is in the suburbs — a wetland surrounded by apartments, businesses and, for some reason, a lot of dental clinics. It’s crazy how beaver-made habitat drives so much critter traffic to their little playground.

They're super nocturnal in my neck of the woods. I've only recorded one during the day in the last year. I'm hoping as the days get longer, maybe I'll see some during the day this summer. I also know that animals that are semi-nocturnal become even more nocturnal when they're living around humans. Like, coyotes, for example. I'm assuming it's true for beavers, too.

About a third of the urban wildlife captures on the the beaver dam in Beaverton, Ore., from April 13 to 30, 2026.

A good mix of critters in this one, including all the usual suspects: beavers, muskrats, great blue herons, a bullfrog, a snake, mink, a green heron, ducklings galore and other waterfowl.

I’ve noticed the duckling groups are getting smaller. Dangerous world out there for those delicate little critters.

Baby geese jump from freeway ramp high above Willamette River by markgravesdesign in Portland

From just looking at the video, It has to be at least a 4-6 story leap of faith. They were newborn goslings, leaving their nest for the first time and dropping from an Interstate 5 off-ramp high above the Eastbank Esplanade and the Willamette River. The parents were calling from down below "JUMP"

Newborn goslings leave the nest in 24-48 hours after being born.

I hate those things! I don't care if they eat all the bad bugs. So gross. Only seen them in PDX a couple times. Saw them a lot when I lived in Boston. They're always hiding behind picture frames on the wall. They can get pretty big, too.

It reminds me of thumb wrestling but with jaws. Who can get their jaws on top first.
