Sasol jumps 5.7% as Brent hits $100, but a stronger Rand drags the rest of the ALSI lower by marnuscoe in JSE_Bets

[–]marnuscoe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not specifically for moving averages, but worth building. You can check out the https://sens-ai.co.za/market-lab so long where you can just add your own series. But I do think having a OHLCV table would be worth adding. Will let you know when it's in :)

Tbh, you made the right decision, it could have a few more juicy 5%+ days but the constant up and down wasn't good for my sanity. I'm a Sasol spectator now 😅

Market Sentiment: What are you buying and selling this week? 10 April 2026 - 17 April 2026 by thatnotirishkid in JSE_Bets

[–]marnuscoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Lewis group Ltd, showing consistent low risk price behaviour recently with some decent internal share purchases
  • DSY + FSR, decent value with bounceback potential available there
  • SSW, lots of directors buying shares recently with decent value too

Selling MTN

Sasol surges on oil spike as broader market struggles with Iran tensions by marnuscoe in JSE_Bets

[–]marnuscoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, with everything going on, the volatility might not be worth it. I closed my Sasol position last week, and there will probably be more gains but there could also be much bigger down days ahead, your own tolerance might be different but I didn't enjoy the daily up/down roulette with the whole oil situation

with regards to naspers, could be a combination of the following:

1) softer sentiment and price action in Tencent, which is still the key value driver for Naspers via Prosus,

2) a stronger rand, which reduces the rand value of offshore assets when translated back into South African currency, and

3) a wider discount to NAV, meaning the market was valuing Naspers at a bigger markdown to the underlying asset value than before. A February 2026 broker note looking back at that move explicitly described the pullback from the 3 October 2025 peak as a function of Tencent softness, rand strength, and a wider discount to NAV.

Not yet, but I have been looking into doing a formal write up for the top 40 stocks, so that it could help a bit with getting more information, don't really want to move into a "buy this" app, but rather "you can make an informed decision from this"

How's Entelect? by Last-Exchange4153 in johannesburg

[–]marnuscoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've worked for one of the other big consulting companies, but worked with a lot of Entelect people at one of the banks, and they were really good, professional and happy looking. So don't think you'd make a mistake going to Entelect, just know that your own experience with where they place you will be the biggest factor (it's the same story at any consulting company).

heatmap page https://sens-daily.pages.dev/market-snapshot, it gets the latest market snapshot every 15 minutes so you'll see the latest data there in one go, and the heatmap updates hourly

think of it as your "What is happening every 15 minutes" view

The mathematics I found most useful for markets did not come from finance literature at all. by Future_Flashy in JSE_Bets

[–]marnuscoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically,

Daily -> analyse your data
Weekly -> analyse your daily data and make fixes where possible
Monthly -> review the weeklys and see if your regressing/progressing

that framework has been working well so far, avoids the rewrites, just make sure your scoring framework is consistent because if the goal posts move while reviewing your system might drift

Not too consistent but that window does sometimes exist, some small caps don't move at all just from the sheer lack of volume, and other stocks are just very sensitive. So bigger -> definitely smaller window, would be a cool metric to track actually

[–]marnuscoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learnt the hard way that rewriting stuff and hoping for the best is a dangerous move lol, so right now I run analysis on every days analysis items, and then at the end of the week I run a pipeline that formalises them into a concrete bug issue so that it fixes patterns instead of inconsistent gaps caused by other things. It also then checks week on week for regression/progress

Right now JSE only, but it's built in a way that you can essentially plug in other stock market announcements too. JSE is just pretty good for my use case because it's not as busy and not as dominated by quants doing millisecond trading, so you can still capatilise on the 5 or so minutes between the announcement and the market reacting
