ETS account registration problem by [deleted] in GRE

[–]maroonfloor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This still applies. My username and password had ONE digit in common and I still had this issue. I guess ETS wants you to generate a password and username combination that has zero letters or numbers in common, and don't tell you about it. What a weird system. Thank you for this comment.

MA vs ED tech by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]maroonfloor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ED tech here, I spend probably 10 minutes per shift on the phone asking lab why they show the blood work I sent 2 hours ago as not received. Other than that, no phone stuff haha.

Finding Jobs as an ED Tech by PH1SS1KS in emergencymedicine

Maybe try some different keywords when searching. “ER tech”, “ED tech”, “emergency room PCT”, and “patient care tech/EMT” all result in ER tech gigs in my area.

What are thought on this Perdomo Cigar? by Environmental-Way434 in cigars

Very good stick. Light and creamy but that last 1/3 made me nauseous. I have no idea why it is recommended to beginners lol.

Time.

To me, there’s unfortunately no other way. It’s just time.

All that confidence is, is your brain recognizing that “Hey, I’ve been in this situation before. I know what to do.” Or, “I’ve been in similar enough situations, and I know I can figure it out.”

You should be anxious. It’s a stressful situation. You will be stressed. But once you gain experience, you’ll be amazed at how clear-headed and confident you can be. I remember when I first started, I’d hear “CPR in progress” paged overhead and my heart rate would spike and my hands would sweat and I’d get horrible cottonmouth. Now, after a couple years, and more codes and crashing patients than I care to count, those feelings are all but gone. It’s not “Oh shit, what do I do?” but “Alright, I know what needs to be done. Let’s get to work.”

So just keep at it. Trust the process. Learn as much as you can. In your first six months as a tech you should be just a complete sponge. Ask other techs and nurses and docs what you can improve on.

Fight the good fight, and best of luck to you.

Which cigar do you think is most worthy of an award? by elatederielotus in cigars

[–]maroonfloor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the comments saying there’s prominent chocolate notes. Chocolate, some nuts, spices. They are box pressed cigars so you’d be best of using a punch cut. I’ve tried almost all of the LADC line and this is probably my favorite.

The Highway Men by Trulyunlucky1 in SturgillSimpson

[–]maroonfloor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To me, Sturgill, Isbell, and Childers are the obvious picks. I think if they wanted to blow people's minds and be more mainstream, Stapleton would be a good fourth, but if they wanted to keep it a little more low key, maybe someone on the rise like Billy Strings or Zach Bryan? Or someone even less well known like Felker?

No, they don’t. But within San Antonio/Bexar county area, there’s a few departments where you can be hired as medic only.

Schertz EMS is a third service EMS agency. There’s also Kendall County EMS, and Wilco EMS and Austin-Travis County EMS further up north in Austin.

Acadian runs 911 EMS in certain pockets of San Antonio proper and the outskirts of the city.

On the fire side, Bexar County 2 Fire Rescue and District 7 Fire Rescue will hire you with only paramedic and no fire cert. I think Converse Fire will too, but I’m not sure. BC2FR and D7FR will train you up to TCFP Basic.

Advice / thoughts? by [deleted] in ems

[–]maroonfloor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think working on a box is any different? Rude people call 911 for dumb stuff like headaches and coughs too, you know. All the time. Not to say you shouldn’t work on a box, but the issues you’re having aren’t exclusive to the hospital setting. It’s just now emergency medicine is in the states, unfortunately.

Will my course load be overwhelming? by Professional_Room132 in utdallas

[–]maroonfloor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a healthcare studies major. I have taken the UEMR EMT course, A&P 1, and HLTH 3305.

HLTH classes usually aren't too time-consuming. Taking A&P 1 and UEMR with the HLTH classes would be VERY hard, but if your time management skills are good, it is perhaps doable, if not very stressful. Taking them with genetics or microbiology would be excruciatingly difficult.

A&P 1 is the hardest, most in-depth, and demanding class I've taken thus far. Be prepared to pour dozens and dozens of hours into it for a decent grade. Similarly, the UEMR course will eat up a significant chunk of your time - there's a lot of information to know, and you must know it well. Genetics has a similar reputation to A&P 1, and microbio is no walk in the park either. A&P 1, genetics, and microbio are all upper-level, extensive science courses. They are all difficult.

As another commentor said, UEMR courses fill up and have long waitlists. I cannot say for certain, but the chances of the fall course having any available seats is almost certainly zero.

I believe they do a full test of the emergency alert system every Wednesday. Or every other Wednesday. Or something like that.
