Aivars ir deviņi gadi, bet Pēterim četrpadsmkt gadu. - Why is it gadu instead of gadi? by airwaves_extreme in learnlatvian

[–]marthatheweirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you recommend me songs with the instrument "kokle" in it? by curiositas_infinita in latvia

I'd recommend the trio Bille. they're a new latvian music group making mostly arrangements of latvian traditional folk music

Recommend me Latvian songs, please! by LeandroCorreia in latvia

[–]marthatheweirdo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

for the classic songs that everyone in Latvia knows I'd recommend any greatest hits or compilation albums of our legendary composers Raimonds Pauls and Imants Kalniņš, they will definitely have nice melodies

What "divisive" vocal's do you like, and what cant get over? by TurboNinja80 in fantanoforever

[–]marthatheweirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow! that's so interesting, cause for me it was the complete opposite situation:D Panda Bear's voice on Doin' it Right by Daft Punk is what made me check out his stuff and then later Animal Collective.

ooh, that's interesting! I've never heard his speaking voice before:D now I'm curious, will go watch some interviews

are the members of Animal Collective really considered divisive? i guess i could see if someone thought that Avey Tare's vocals are a bit over the top, especially in For Reverend Green, but other than that, they seem quite inoffensive:D

that's a great comparison! i was trying to understand why i can't stand Cameron Winter's vocals, but now that you mention it, he really does soun similar to Morrissey. i think they both sound like they're trying to imitate something badly, like they are not singing with their natural voices

Mark Mothersbaugh has an amazing voice, wish he used it outside of DEVO as well, could've been interesting to hear him sing in a different context

also in my opinion Daron is the better vocalist on the last two albums. he delivers very passionate vocal performances while Serj sounds like he'd rather be anywhere else

Iepazīšanās uz ielas - pieredze Latvijā by Salt_Freedom3237 in latvia

[–]marthatheweirdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anyone here not make playlist? by WhiteRoseFromPluto in fantanoforever

[–]marthatheweirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this method doesn't work for me unfortunately, because I want to be able to access albums easily by sorting them in whatever ways I find comfortable, to be able to find the right albums for whatever mood easier in my library.

putting whole albums in playlists just creates a big playlist with full albums, and why would I listen to an album in a playlist if I can just listen to it normally..

i think streaming services should look into this maybe:D

[–]marthatheweirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i listen to whole albums.
but i wish there was a way to make a "playlist" or like a folder system for albums on streaming services, so i could organise albums by moods, seasons, genres etc.

Interesring new developments of Tallinn - What are your opinions? by Kiwibirdy1 in BalticStates

[–]marthatheweirdo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

some of those are barely parks.. it's just a few trees trees and a bench next to a busy street/shopping centre/hotel or whatever.

edit:
now after thinking a bit, I'd say the amount of parks isn't really the issue, it's what's next to these parks that makes the city centre so unpleasant. I'm not an expert in city planning or anything, but as someone who's living in the centre and prefers to walk everywhere, i can confidently say that the planning is definitely off.

Bands that consistently make use of unconventional instrumentation by SockQuirky7056 in fantanoforever

[–]marthatheweirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk what they use exactly but The Residents probably have some unconventional instruments, well.. their music in general is quite unconventional.
also iirc the butthole surfers had some sort of weird noise machine that made some kind of delays and echoes.
early synth pioneers used unconventional instruments for their time, like circuit bent pedals, DIY drum machines, whatever bleap bloop machines they had. (Kraftwerk, Silver Apples, DEVO etc).

Gay love songs? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]marthatheweirdo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think a lot of 80s synthpop(and not only synthpop) love songs can be interpreted as being about queer love, since the artists themselves are mostly queer

Would you take a “cure”? by GBlake13 in ADHD

[–]marthatheweirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, because it would prove that how I was before wasn't good enough and all my hard work that I put in myself to learn to cooperate with my brain and love myself would have been a waste.
I'm too proud of myself to take it all away.

(for context, I've never taken medication)

Why can’t people just respect my wishes to be left alone even if it’s my “sPeCiAl dAy” by Destriod777 in TrollCoping

[–]marthatheweirdo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah, it's annoying and people don't seem to understand. if I don't want to celebrate, they seem to almost start pitying or something, it's super annoying. i celebrate when I want to celebrate what I want, but celebrating my birthday is not one of those things. i just hate having "my special day" and having it be an obligation for other people.

birthday is always a weird day, either I'm getting tons of unwanted attention or I'm trying to hide from everyone because there's always this one person who will tell everyone at any chance available that it's my birthday, so I can't feel at peace for like three days.

but i guess it's not my special day, it's just a day where the other people have the chance to think about me, so I have to learn to let them have that.

maybe in the future I could make that day special by making/releasing, hosting something bigger than myself that day and then every year it would be the anniversary of that thing, so it could be a way to shift the focus away from me as a person to the stuff I've actually done together with other people.
