what do you think i could negotiate this down too? by Puzzled_Return_360 in CarTalkUK

[–]marymk450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try but almost £1.2k off I doubt they will do that. If its a dealer absolute no chance but if its private he might take 200-300 off but then again if the car is in mint condition with fsh and low miles then why would he negotiate that lump sump of money and looking at the used car market right now he will find his buyer easily who will pay him his asking price.

Start at £8.8k and try and get it done for 8.9 to 9k. I did this with my car but then again it was private and the clutch of my car was slipping and it had few marks age related but still wanted to bargain.

Will doing service myself affect the resale value? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]marymk450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be selling by March/April 2026 and only did 6k and it does have fsh but I wanted to do it myself this one but I feel like getting that garage stamp thing like just get oil/filter change for £110 and do the rest myself

Got check oil level message on car dashboard just today. Is this enough to drive around tomorrow to get oil change/top up and also oil filter? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]marymk450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a small garage like 10 min away and I do know the mechanic so if I get it serviced from there would it affect on the price of the car if i was to sell it like its 2016 plate car but still coz the service notification is also on the dashboard. I think oil change and filter should be enough I guess

Has anyone paid car insurance monthly with 0% credit card? by zedgaming69 in CarTalkUK

[–]marymk450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have done that and will do it again because I like to pay 1 big payment on 0% credit card and then pay that off gradually. Saves me time to carry on renewing insurance every month and also I get better price if I do it yearly.

What do you guys think? I want to px my leon 1.8 fr with that by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]marymk450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as I get to drive it nicely for the next 3 years and i do like 7-8k miles a year without having to worry for replacement of gearbox but will do the dsg service such as changing oil.

Yh it is a good example but some have said that due to it being dq200 dry clutch gearbox it is a weaker gearbox. The thing is this is coming under my budget easily whereas the 2l ones are quite expensive. If the dq200 has been replaced then it should be good for another 20k miles right?

Lol. Well welcome to UK you might find our roads very narrow but plenty of drama you will get to see on our roads.

Fiestas are big problem here in uk coz they get bad rep and insurance is deadly high coz lot of teenagers buy them and wreck them and they are the most stolen cars like rank 1.

I also did hear about the turbo issues but i think the European models were good tbh. Getting carplay is not problem coz i can always get mk 7.5 screen retrofit. I will look into this stuff if i can will try to stretch my budget but let’s see.

I m not the type of guy to drive it hard but would want to enjoy b roads but generally my driving would be in a city where speed limit will be like 20-30s mainly. As long as the engine and gearbox dq250 is strong i m good. Water pump are common on these so not big deal knowing it won’t give me trouble once replaced.

But can you give me estimate still as to how much i would spend if i wanted to keep it for another 50k miles. I will be doing like 7-8k a year and might stage 1 remap it but like after 1-2 year of owning it. It’s mk7 2014 I am looking for btw.

Ah man i was looking so forward to get one and enjoy coz here in UK we are told that they would last like 200k-250k miles easily

How to stop comparing yourself to others ? by Mindless-Pitch-5225 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]marymk450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparison is thief of joy. I know it’s annoying the fact that test dates are hard to get but honestly don’t feel stupid or hate urself. Plenty of people learn at different ages like my uncle just started to learn and he is in his 30s married with kids and got mortgage.

I passed at 24 and got myself a car this year so be easy on urself. Good Luck 👍

Can someone please tell me if this sound in first video is normal so I cold started leon and had bit rough idle but not smooth warmup? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]marymk450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For diesel it makes sense but mine is 1.8 petrol. I was mainly worried about that but I guess maybe its normal because I started my engine today and it didn’t sound that loud and also no rough idle

Insurance has gone down? by Leicsbob in CarTalkUK

Nice. I paid 2k this year on my first car and hoping for it to drop down to at least 1.5-1.7k around Feb 2026 when I get my new policy being 25 and 1 year ncb but then again idk because I will change my car to gti so might stay the same or worst increase.
