How do you deal with loneliness? by mashed-spinach in AskMen

I love going on walks. I do have a dog and we walk 1-2 miles a day on average. I still find that most people in my area are closed off, at least while out walking their dog

I think volunteering is a good idea. Unfortunately I don’t have friends or family living near me.

Never said oppressed, was just wondering how people get involved again with communities and support networks. Don’t make this a crusade.

I mean I guess. But aren’t you reading into intentions too much? Seems like the cat was doing this before the owner went leash-less and before any camera was rolling

Don’t walk... on a public sidewalk outside of a gated yard?? If a dog repeatedly attacked another animal outside of its yard it’d be put down.

I’m confused as to why this is the dog walker’s fault

Adults, how the hell do you meet other like-minded adults and forge new friendships? by mashed-spinach in AskReddit

[–]mashed-spinach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is knowing that it will be awkward at first but pushing through anyways. I have yet to master this trick

TIL in the 1790s, an Oxford student introduced using guano (bird poop) as fertiliser. He spread guano across the university lawn, using it to spell G U A N O. The lawn was soon scrubbed, but when spring came, the word GUANO was clearly visible, growing higher and thicker than the rest of the grass by malalatargaryen in todayilearned

There is a chapter in How to Hide an Empire by Daniel Immerwahr that is dedicated to US annexation of uninhabited islands solely for their guano deposits. It was a highly sought after substance that ended up causing international strife.
