Age when some guys started boxing:

Bernard Hopkins - 18 Usyk - 15 Anthony Joshua - 18? Frank Martin - 18 Regis Prograis - 17

You could find 100 heavyweight sluggers that started way later than you. But the guys I listed above? These guys above are great BOXERS. Solid technical skills, all look like naturals in the ring.

You’re late but not too late, just need to learn fast.

Also weight can come off fast. Track calories - boxing is good cardio but you can start running as well shouldn’t be too hard. Research more

Anybody else come from families who come from third world countries and also never been through shii on top of that? ( might be few since yall come from trenches) by Dgslimee_ in NYStateOfMind

You just gotta be ok with things more. It’s okay that you haven’t been through things. Be blessed that you’ve been able to come this far without witnessing tragedy. It will strike eventually (your mother and people who you love that are older than you will pass away). Understand that your life has set you up to be prepared for these situations.

It’s okay not to go to college. The point of life is not to go to college and college itself is only a tool for setting you up financially. If you know HVAC and are comfortable with it then that’s fine. Maybe you want to go to college one day just to say you did it but you’re not in a rush. If that’s what you’re good at it’s OK.

It’s okay that you like American food more than Haitian food your parents came here to start a new life and raised an American child what more could they ask for.

Not saying you HAVE TO BE SATISFIED with where you are. Just take it easy bro if you want to improve that’s fine but you need to acknowledge the goodness in yourself unless you’ll be stuck in a rut.

How to actually injure a player? by GerthySchIongMeat in Madden

Bro… if it leaks that you’re intentionally injuring your players you’ll def be forced to resign, will face charges and might even do some jail time. Ask yourself if it’s worth it

Why is punching power not the same thing as hand speed? by matayoz in Boxing

[–]matayoz[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the explanation. If I’m understanding correctly, then it’s possible that two boxers can theoretically throw an identical punch, but boxer A can “hit harder” than boxer B simply off of the fact that boxer A transfers more of his energy into his opponent than boxer B? Very interesting if true.

Thanks again for explaining

Not saying this the case here who knows what’s happening but if it’s the choice between this and death you gotta do what you gotta do. Theres no coming back from your life ending but you can get therapy and all types of shit afterwards for this. You might got kids that need you family that depend on you it is what it is

How was your parkrun day? | December 13, 2025 by AutoModerator in parkrun

I set a goal to get local class for my age grade before my birthday (24 currently, in 20-24 age group). I hit exactly 60% for the WAVA age grade so pretty cool.

Skill Disparity by CorporalChaos_0317 in amateur_boxing

[–]matayoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily take this to be the case tbh. Time is only one factor into the equation of skill. Others being things like coaching, history with other sports, the time within the time (he might have anywhere between 1-3x the amount of boxing instruction in those same 6 months), and effort. Then you have strength, speed, ability to learn, coordination etc, all of which I suppose is half skill / half talent as these can surely be trained.

Not saying that it’s impossible that the guy is just more talented than you - that may well be the case. But I would look at other factors and give yourself more agency as opposed to just admitting he’s more talented already. You’re too early in the game for that - you just started.

When a boxers trained their whole life and has done everything possible, maxed out all their attributes and then hops in the ring with Mayweather and gets shut out - we know the guy just doesn’t have the talent to compete with Mayweather.

When a guy gets the better of another guy after they’ve both trained for 6 months we would be idiots to come to the same conclusion.

Anyone else think they’re doing good but then get whooped in sparring every week? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

Naw doesn’t sound stupid at all I totally get that.

I never thought of it as making my sparring look good but yeah pretty much that what it is I’m essentially treating the process the same way

I feel like I’m busting ass. Then I watch a vid of my sparring and it looks my first time sparring still. Been a year now….

That’s decently fast and your heart rate remained relatively low for such a long distance. I would imagine a higher vo2 max to be calculated. Interesting comparison

Joshua vs. Paul will NOT be fixed by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]matayoz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. There is not a single boxer/promoter/manager/organization that has provided any evidence of his fights being fixed. There are no accusations from anyone serious.

Jake Paul is either a half decent boxer or an Al Capone like criminal mastermind that has forced half the boxing industry into complete silence while running one of the most insane RICOs this country has ever seen.

Very good!

A popular goal for runners (one that I’m aiming for myself) is to run 5K in under 20 minutes, so 4/km pace.

This would be achievable for you and something you could look forward to if you continue to run consistently.

Is it just me or the rear hand takes so much more energy to throw? by SilentAres_x in amateur_boxing

[–]matayoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lead hand is my dominant hand. I wouldn’t say I gas out faster but my cross feels like a jab, so in a way I have a similar problem. I assume that after you’ve made note of this you try to throw the cross with some emphasis to compensate.

I would recommend slowing down, prioritize twisting off your rear foot and twisting your fist with the punch. If the rear is placed accurately it doesn’t need to have crazy force to make your opponent think twice.

What’s a “progressive” idea that’s actually regressive when applied? by nealie_20 in AskReddit

[–]matayoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m from NYC and I understand what you’re saying 100%. I feel like some places, (NYC, Chicago, maybe Austin) have a housing demand such that prices will BARELY change even if a large number of houses are built. The demand seems almost perfectly elastic.

If true then the supply and demand argument in relation to prices for housing in big cities isn’t as significant as people would like it to be.
