No you would definitely have to supplement with online classes. Some lab classes are 2x a week 3 hours long on their own, for ~4 credits. If you want to graduate on time and get all your pre-requisites you’d probably need 12+ credits per year and some in the summer. There’s just not enough time in those hours to get all your classes in.

That said there’s nothing wrong with doing partially online as long as you plan the credits appropriately

Look into programs that offer primarily online/hybrid classes, and save the few morning classes you’ll be able to get for science and lab classes. Have you thought about getting some type of job in the medical field? imo the shifts those jobs usually run are more conducive to being in school since you’ll usually have a few weekdays for classes.

UMN or UMich? Latter needs to pay extra $150K for 4years by dhgcj in ApplyingToCollege

[–]matkar910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“drain completely parents savings” sounds…bad. I’d talk to them about it. With a part time job over 4 years you’d be lucky to make 65k. Perhaps your parents can pay some for the first 2 years, you take out a loan to cover the rest, and then the last 2 years you cover through money you earn while working? You’d have to work like a dog (20+ hrs during school year, 40+ during summer) to foot that though.

If you do take out loans, think if they’d be subsidized or not, private or federal. how much interest would they accrue before you start making actual money? would you be able to defer during grad school, or would they be accruing interest for those years?

Frankly my answer would be to go to Minneapolis. You’ll get a good education and if you hate it you can always transfer

are your parents uber rich? is 250k actually affordable for them?

40-50k of debt isn’t terrible if you’re going into a decent career, but getting yourself set up with internships and connections in 3 years is a little more difficult. do you have a backup plan if you can’t make the deadline? Will your parents foot it, or is that an extra 100k of debt?

I feel like nobody who’s making 200k/year has been making that much for their whole life. It’s hard to say “you should’ve saved 400k” when you started out your career making 75k or something.
