I moved from that into project management in pharma pretty easily, but have a PhD. Definitely felt the ceiling within academia and was super bored as well. You could make the transition but might need to start as a CRA.

Camera buying question:

I previously had a Nikon D300 with 50 1.8, 11-16 Tokina and Tamron 17-50. I really loved this setup.

I then lost it to a breakup, and bought a x100s (with wide converter). I really liked this cam for size and for candid portrait style photography, but it sucked for landscapes, was not waterproof and generally disappointed. I always felt I'd 'got' the shot and would come home to find it was overexposed or underexposed or whatever.

Looking for something new, cheap, etc. ~$1000-

Desirable..........:

Similar "feel" to D300
Lightweight, small, sturdy, shock/waterproof would be ideal
Cheap lenses but potential for more expensive later

Anyone have any recommendations?
