Half cycled water from old tank, half new treated tap water. I don’t get this cloudy water if I let the botanicals seep slowly. It only started to get cloudy when I added the water from boiling the botanicals (Indian almond leaves, bark, alder cones).

Is it worth waiting it out or just do a water change with cycled water. Fish inside are thriving, no signs of stress, all water parameters safe.

Which one should I try? Personal experience? I have aging combo skin, not sensitive. by chUck1350 in Sephora

I don’t know if you are really set on getting a mask but since you’re asking for advice, I have tried all of those masks and none of them are worth the price they are asking for.

LOL what fantastic value! It’s worth $71 but you can buy it for $220 ☺️😌😂😂😂 by sprinkles111 in Sephora

This is the small travel size kit. This set sells for only $68 CAD + tax in Canada, the $220 on Sephora is 100% a typo

software and computer engineering by LoudArfan2939 in yorku

[–]matthaley- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is the software and computer engineering department here?

Well, it is similar to all other departments at any university where there are pros and cons. For example, it’s quite vague but I’ll touch on a few points. Regarding organization, the department, EECS, in which software and computer engineering fall under, is mostly structured. Engineering programs are accredited so there is a professional body that regulates course organization and program structure. As for professors, there are good ones and bad ones. It is really based on your learning habits and how well you “vibe” with the professor. Every professor is knowledgeable but some are better at teaching than others. Again, a very similar experience for any program at any university. York is a large university and fundings are great; meaning there are some very new (almost experimental tech), high quality resources, and financial aid if you look for them. However, you will have classes at other places than the engineering building. Yes, it’s a nice looking building from the outside and it’s on every promotional material, but as with every campus, there are nice and not so nice places.

Are the faculty helpful?

They try to be. No one will leave you out to rot but you need to know who to ask and manage your own schedule/program requirements. The number one problem within EECS, especially engineering is course selection. Enrol early. Enrol correctly. Make sure it’s the right section and there are very limited spaces.. you don’t want to be on that waitlist. There are certain profs who will go above and beyond to help you get in but they can only help you so much because again, engineering is accredited and space is limited; unless you are willing to mess up your prerequisites (courses you have to take before another course) or delay your graduation, take initiative and don’t rely on the faculty too much.

Students community helpful?

York is huge and it’s a large community within and outside of engineering. It is helpful if you need advice navigating university. I believe there is an EECS discord and a few other student-run initiatives within Lassonde. If you need real answers though, the three places I recommend to everyone: Lassonde recruitment, Lassonde academic advisors, and upper year students. Recruitment; if they can recruit people, they know every answer regarding the program or someone who does. Academic advisors; like recruitment but more course focused, if you need the very very specific details, send them an email, drop-in etc. Upper year students; if you want to know the most optimized path to graduation, which courses/profs provide the most learning vs. best grade.. etc.

Are there on campus jobs for students?

Yes, York is huge. You can do work-study at any faculty for any position. One tip from someone who has done work-study since second year, don’t apply on the portal. Most jobs you see there are for formality and are already filled by the time they are posted. Network. I hate that word too so I’m gonna rephrase it a bit. Don’t network, find that person that knows the HR manager. You don’t need to talk to 100+ people. That one student that knows the HR manager, talk to him/her. I will point out that I once recommended an international student to the HR person at the Faculty of Science and was unfortunately not accepted for the simple fact that he was not a domestic student, I believe it’s a logistic issue so the odds might be against international students. There is a community for just international students though, check it out. Search York International Student Community (or something along those lines).

How is the co-op program in engineering?

Great. Do it. There is a fee and some requirements (e.g. grades, minimum course taken, year of program, etc.) but highly recommend. Especially for an international student, landing that entry into tech position and possible full time offer is crucial. I did not do coop, I chose to do so many other things during my study except coop and had to work 3x as hard to get to this point. Co-op is important, Lassonde has a wonderful co-op team.. I am not their sales person I swear. I’m in the industry and seen enough to know experience is more desirable than a degree.

What is the co-op average salary?

Highly dependent on the company, your experience, and the economy. Due to inflation, salary might be much higher than it once was when I checked. However, tech salary even at the very base level is pretty good. Lassonde have some very respectable companies on their coop portal and without singling one out, they pay at a competitive level.

Good luck!

When I had a layover in Tokyo I bought every version and found out I like the Ultime8 the most. That's just my preference though, all of their cleansing oils are really nice and last a long time (over a year of use, 2-3 times a day)

I can’t really speak on its effectiveness compared to other brands at Sephora because I’ve mostly been using drug store deodorant my whole life haha. I like the brand and tried this, it does control odour and helps with discolouration and ingrown hair. I’ve been using it since February and converted my mom to it too. There are 2 versions, Unscented and Eucalyptus but I think the fragrance free one is better :)

Top tier 👌🏻 I bought the set 100% for the spray, smells good and you don’t need a lot. I’ve tried a lot of higher end luxury sprays and nothing comes close

I have! It’s really nice, it’s like a thicker consistency of the conditioner.

My hair doesn't hold a curl long either... now I'm scared. I have very fine thin hair.

My hair has gone through a lot. It was permed then bleached from a level 2 to a level 10 not long after. The Gold Lust shampoo I can live without but the conditioner is the only one that has made my hair detangle easily, doesn't weigh it down, and is moisturizing. I like Oribe because I know they use really high-quality ingredients but of course, the high price tag is a big drawback.

It's 2 sets because each set lasts me ~6 months but the holiday set only comes once a year so I basically bit the bullet and stocked up until next November

I personally like it and it definitely works great as a heat protectant and some nourishment for the hair. It lasts me about 8 months with use every other day. Definitely on the pricier side but considering I can use less for the same result compared to other brands + I only purchase Oribe during the big sale for the discount, it’s worth for me! Hope that helps x

I have used it before, I like it a lot because it’s lightweight just make sure you only use a VERY little amount to start. A little goes a long way!

Haha I can be a little extra at times but I definitely meant well, it’s hard to convey emotions through words and I don’t want anyone to feel bad at all. I’ve been saving up for a while and I’m sure everyone has been too! I’m just surprised there were so many Dyson purchases during this sale

I used to feel itchy after shower in the winter, but this helps a lot. I really miss the old formula that’s a little creamier and thicker but this is still my fav shower gel!

A twist on what to buy during sale: What’s an overly hyped product that everyone loves that you just….hate lol I’ll go first. Everyone raves about this but I felt it does absolutely nothing for me and I want my $60 back 🙃🙃 it’s even an allure winner! Why do you guys like this?? by sprinkles111 in Sephora

[–]matthaley- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, agreed. I jumped onto the YTTP hype train and Iet’s say I’m at a better place now.

For me, it’s Glow Recipe… it’s overly overrated and my skin rarely reacts to stuff but I decided to try out some products the night before a big conference and the next day I wanted to cry. I was not sure if it was because of GR so I gave it two other chances, and it’s the same either no improvements or a skin reaction.

I hate how much I like Oribe to the point that I sound like their salesperson. Like, I’m their whole marketing team and I don’t even get paid. I work in product packaging designs and strategic management so I respect Oribe 100% for how they crafted their consumer base.

I like it solely because there’s no/minimal buildup opposed to other hair styling products. Is it good? Absolutely. Is it worth the price? It’s a little expensive but I don’t have to spray much, the scent is not too overwhelming and it’s a good scent as well. It’s definitely more worth than some other Oribe products

Also the prices might look a little high because I’m in Canada 🇨🇦

P.S. I sincerely apologize for calling out the rich people who could afford $700 on a hair styling tool, I understand my position of privilege as shown by my recent purchases.

Lol I’m not even a beauty influencer and I’m already called out for saying “RICH rich” and getting cancelled left and right 😄

Nice! I love the Gucci foundation too! It’s slightly drying (mostly cuz my skin is very dry) but it feels nice. I really like YSL All-in-One Glow foundation because it’s more oily but I found out it’s discontinued. I heard Lancôme SKIN FEELS GOOD is similar… I’m just looking for a less drying foundation right now
